I've started working on these. My colors need to change slightly.

Hi J,
Tips, lets see. Ventilation is key. A Mask is a must. To fume Gold you need an oxidizing flame. Try to keep the gold on your glass rod straight up under the flame. If not, you could end up with splashes of gold right in front of your torch, mocking you!
For silver, fume in a reducing flame.
The above pendant is a tube implosion that I first lightly fumed gold onto the tube. Next I reduced the flame and fumed the silver. I can't tell you the exact amounts to fume to get this green, but it seems like I had more silver than gold on the glass. I dotted it w/ clear and pulled it out and turned it slightly before imploding it. You just have to play w/ it and see what you get. Here are a few fumed pendants that show the range of looks you can get. 1st A silver fume. 2nd a gold fume. 3rd a Gold /silver mix.

i've got to disagree with you, Dlando1. so long as your ventilation is sufficient (as in, passes the smoke bomb test) you really don't need to use a mask.
can it hurt? no. but if your vent situation is proper you need not wear one.

Really nice fume work PhatPat. Great color! As far as wearing a mask while fuming, I would rather err on the side of caution. My supply of lungs is only two, and I want to keep them as functional as possible.
Hey Pat, what color is that orange in your middle pendant? really nice.

Very nice Dave. Thats one thing i have never tried is using opals i gotta pick some up. All i did this weekend was clean shop and i added some color cubbies made out of vinyl rain downspouts . Now i feel organized and ready to make another mess! Haha

I don't want to tell you something you already know, but you have to encase opals before you can use them. i burnt up about 5 of them before I found this out. When you order your opals, order a few 9mm tubes. Drop the oval in the bottom of the sealed tube and heat it up. Then punty up and pull the opal so you have a thin casing of glass around it.
Then your set. Now you can add it to any thing you want. Good luck making a mess. Whenever I do a big cleanup in my studio, it usually lasts all of about three days.
Have fun,
Dave

My Gift Today
Trev wandered to the shop a bit this week, getting better from the accident.
This is what he made for me.. The lady sitting on a flower with some roses in her hands..
