Default Kobuki in the house...

No, I didn't kidnap him. Although I bet he *could* still make marbles if I just break his ankle...

Here's a closeup of the face, and a family picture.

For those not familiar with GTTs, the small one is a Lynx, and it's the same as the center fire on the bigger two. The middle one is a Phantom (Lynx centerfire, plus an outer ring). The Kobuki is a Phantom with an extra ring.

I can't get oxygen delivered out here in the woods, so I use a pair of generators to run the Phantom. I'm hoping to have a tank-filling system delivered from UO sometime in the next few weeks -- until then, it will be a really shiny paperweight

Who did the custom paint job? Are you going to be putting a marver on it? Who made the marver on your Phantom?

(I.want!)

GTT did the powdercoating (well, I'm sure they jobbed it out, but they handled it). The Phantom marver is by Wil Menzies -- I have no idea if he still makes them, I know he got tired of machining graphite. I've ordered a marver from Blast Shield, I imagine it will be here next week. The big holdup is the tank fill system

that is definitely too much torch for me. I can't even handle a mirage at full blast...

I do like the phantom being the middle-fire

I'm a little apprehensive about it myself

Yeah, the Phantom/Lynx centerfire is what I'll use 90% of the time (though I'm excited that I'll be able to work 3"+ marbles occasionally) -- but for doing prep work, the big flame will be a godsend. I think a Mirage centerfire like on some of the Deltas would use more oxy/fuel than I really need for the majority of my work.

The Kobuki is an amazing torch. I work on Ed's here at the gallery sometimes. It has serious oomph, and is incredibly versatile.

I run my kabuki with the center fire on 2 concentrators and the mid ring and outer rings on tanks via a 2 section foot pedal. Really sweet.

Nasty and I mean that in a good way. Bring it on over and I'll hook you up on the LOX just to see what it can do.

I really noticed that the mirage used much more oxy than the phantom.

what kinds of heat protection will you be using when you fire up the outterfire? TIG gloves? Shiny reflective moon suit?

Or will you opt for 3 feet long punties and blow tubes to keep you hands far away from the flame?

Damn near a month!

I called GTT fully expecting it to take 8 months or so, but I happened to hit them just as a run was finished, and they still had one available. I was torn between the "holy crap, I didn't think I'd have to come up with the $$$ this fast" and "if I don't get this one, it will be 2012 I bet before they get back around to them"
