Default alternatve to using oxygen?

I found this new HHO generator and was wondering if anybody has any experience with this. Could it be used for melting boro?

here are 2 links that show what it can do:

what do you think?

It can be built as a DIY for very little money and time. I would suggest a small one to try it out before investing in one that would run a dual burner.

The generator is using electricity to break down (electrolysis) water and form hydrogen gas at one electrode and oxygen gas at the other. If only the hydrogen is collected and used as fuel for the torch and the same precautions taken as for any other flammable gas, everything should be fine. If the hydrogen and oxygen gases are allowed to mix in the generator or the torch & tubing, you have an exposive mixture that any spark can ignite.

this system seems to be thowing out a lot of heat and it is a very nice and compact unit. I am wondering if it would run my Barracuda. I have spent more on oxygen than the cost of this unit. I understand the basic principle, but can we use this for what we do? No more buying gas and oxygen - sounds like a dream. According to the website it doesn't even use so much power - awesome! Someone must have experience with this . . . . it's on the market for $ 6999.95 - I am very tempted

I did the math on this a while back and the numbers never really worked out.

Burning oxy/propane generates an extreme amount of energy. A wide open GTT Lynx would be generating about 2.6KW of energy so even with a fairly good efficiency of 70% on electrolysis you need almost 4kW of power to match a small lampworking torch.

The videos of HHO torches generally show very small flames.

Plus for 7K you can buy a truckload of oxygen concentrators.

I used to work for a solar company and my boss was building a hydrogen collection system for his house, the problem he ran into was the county fire Marshall shut him down saying no way in hell could store hydrogen.

The long and short of it is, you will spend more energy than you will get out of it. Search some of the other forums for Brown's Gas. In order to be safe you must use it up as fast as you generate it. For $7K you could purchase a commercial grade oxy concentration system.

Another very important issue that gets overlooked in these discussions is the fact that metal that comes in contact with HHO must be stainless steel, or nickel.
Hydrogen will cause other metals to become brittle, crack, and deteriorate rapidly.
A torch crumbling on the inside could lead to catastrophic failure.
As far as I know GTTs are the only metal torches that are actuality rated/approved for use with Hydrogen.

Look up "Browns Gas"... Has been a ton of information written on it... Here and other glass sites and on I-net in general....On some glass sites, there nothing but a big "groan" from users each time subject comes up.... Seems its ok for tiny jewelers torch for occasional use (mall jewelry repair koisks)... For any production it is very expensive to build and operate.... In the end, oxycon or bottled oxygen seems to win with economy and ease of operation....
