Whats the best glue?
Hi all,
I'm making glass knobs and want to try to glue the metal inserts in rather than melt the glass right on the metal. I need a good glue. I've tried E6000, even let it dry for 3 days but it did not hold.
Anyone have any good glue recommendations?
Thanks for any help!

I would try the weld-on 2 part epoxy for the inserts that stuff seems to hold incredibly well.

I've used JBWELD on wine stoppers with great success. It's a two part epoxy and a nasty gray color, so don't use it on transparents. Perhaps that's the same as Karin's?

I've tried lots of things for gluing bails onto my fused pendants and have been really frustrated with the results. Recently I read somewhere about using E6000 but you have to "rough" up the metal and the glass (both surfaces to be bonded) with a diamond bit on a dremel. I've been doing that for over a month and haven't had any problems with the E6000.

Triolyse (available from Rio) is the recommended glue for the metal rivits some are using for the pandora style beads so you might try that. Also "this-to-that" is a wonderful web source for telling you the best fixatives for any material to any other material.

Epoxy 330 is terrific as well -- never had anything come apart yet!

We are big fans of Triolyse. I wrote a blog article about it:

I use Triolyse too and love it, but there was a new glue recently released specifically for glass to metal. I have no idea how good it is, but plan on trying it out:
3M's newest Scot3M DP-105 Epoxych-weld product, DP-105 is specifically formulated to bond glass to metal. It's a water clear, UV resistant epoxy that comes in a handy duo-pack. Easy to dispense with a hand held applicator, you can even purchase mixing nozzles that pre-mix the epoxy as you dispense it, so you can apply directly to your pieces without mixing and applying it. With a 5 minute working time and 15 minute set time, DP-105 is great for applying lots of small pieces quickly and efficiently.

I must agree that Epoxy 330 is so far the best, from Rio. It is what is used on inlays for rings that go through a rigorous amount of abuse, grinding, polishing and ultra sonic cleaners.
