Wood mold?
This may be way dumb but I've seen that you can get a marble mold made of wood. Isn't wood flammable? I am assuming that I'm missing something. I meam most of our tools are made of graphite and brass because they can take the heat, right? Can anybody shed any light on this issue for me?

I have seen cherry wood used by someone blowing glass. The tool they used was soaked in water. This is a close as I can get to answering your question, and I know it doesn't!
Good luck,
Michelle

Michelle is correct, the molds are soaked in water until the wood is saturated. The steam generated by the water pretty much keeps the glass floating off the wood, kind of like hydroplaning your car in the rain. You have to keep the wood very wet.

My husband makes cherry wood marble molds and he keeps them immersed in water, changing the water from time to time. He never lets them dry out.
