Default Short holder

I need a short holder that I can use with one hand, that opens and closes easily and really grips that rod. I have tried two in the last six years. one just didn't grip the short well enough and the other I had to prepare before using then it just felt heavy and awkward in my hand. I would LOVE some recommendations!

I like mine, but can't remember the name of the member here who makes them & sells them on Etsy.
I did get it too close to the flame for too long, & ruined the rubber grip, but I've got it taped back on & it's working that way.

I bought one of Graceful Custom's holders and when I used it for the first time, I wondered why I had waited so long to buy one. It's great, holds very tight, easy to use and I can use the glass down to the bare minimum. No complaints! I love it so much that I purchased a second on recently. Having two is even better than one!

Another rod of glass. It's free and I bet you have lots of them.

When your rod gets to short to handle while working, lay it down, pick up another long rod, heat the end (hot and soft, almost soupy), smoosh it down on the hot end of the short.

Bam! You don't even get out of your groove.

I agree with Shawnette. I do the same thing, there are a lot of other tools we need, why spend money on tools we don't.

I do use my short holder to get the last bit of use out of stringer & twisties too.
Do you use rods to attach to stringer & twisties also? I've never thought of doing that, but maybe I'll give it a try.

Eileen you can use plati-dip from the hardware store to regrip a lot of tools.
It's a lot like tool dip but a lot thicker.

Yes ma'am! With stringers & twisties I use a thick stringer.

Default a few ideas for you

Hi Catherine,

We have several options and many different sizes so the tool can feel more like an extension of your hand and compliment your working style - that's what we are always after with our tools!

the first one we designed for Loren Stump to hold murrini and rods called the Murrini Hemostat (under Holding Tools):

and then and the Italian Style (under Holding Tools) :

The Uncle Al style designed for Al Janelle holds even smaller rods than the Italian Style (under Holding Tools):

and to accommodate smaller stringers and rods for Hayley Tsang we designed this one to get every last bit of that pricey but priceless silver glass! it works on regular sized rods as well (on the home page, scroll down):

Hope this helps!

Yup, I've got 3 greedy grabbers bought over a period of time - so you can tell I like & use them a lot; w/shorts, twisties or stringers. They almost always have something in their jaws. But they don't necessarily hold tight to the last drop of glass.

A wooden clothspen works as well. I use another glass rod though and I seem to get to use all but a very very small bit of the color.

^^^This. If I have a rod of the same color handy I use that.

I do the same. I have a rod holder, but I did not like it. Melting on clear rods works the best for me.

I will often most fuse the shorts onto cheap clear glass. However, if I am in the middle of a bead and need a shortie to finish up, I am very grateful for my shorts holder from Graceful Customs.
