~Thanks, Paula
They're actually purple. The purple is a medium transparent purple over opaque periwinkle. The dots are white and it's just one half twist between dots. Then heat 2 dots down... you don't want to move from dot to dot next door as the bead gets too hot in that area so move two dots down. Keep repeating the spot heat between two dots, poke with a thick transparent purple stringer and twist, pulling the white into the twist. I use a stringer that matches the outside color so if I can let the stringer cool and break it off. Sometimes I use the clean end of a mandrel to twist but you have to be sure not to get the spot heated area too hot or the mandrel sticks.

I'm sure these directions are clear as mud... I am so brain dead from work today.

HI Sue- Thanks for sharing! this is exactly how I do it too Works perfect every time. If I am using different colors, I just make sure all the rods are close in diameter. Laura

This community has given so much and I've learned so much that it pleases me to think that my own little contribution is helping someone else. Thank you all for your nice comments.

Default Making Same Size Beads At Last!

What a great idea! I'm new at bead making and wondered how in the heck I would ever be able to make two alike if one was already in the kiln. You just made it so very SIMPLE!

If you're using a tweezer or other kind of grabbing tool to hold the short length of glass as you wrap it on, you can lay down half the length of glass starting with one cut end and then turn the short around and start again on the same bead with the other cut end. If you're doing it bare-fingered, not so much.

Sue, I read this and went, smack on the forehead, duh, when making the groved beads with a bead roller, it is hard to make the same size. This should help a lot.

Thanks

Love the technique. This is what I made and I love how matchy matchy the bead sizes are.

My pleasure, Phill.

To all: It always surprises (and pleases!) me to see this thread pop up. LE has been such a wonderfully generous place for sharing tips and techniques that I'm really honored to give back to it.

The red is either CIM firecracker or maraschino. I cant remember what blue, but it was encased stringer... prolly white or light blue encased with dark blue.

Sorry so delayed in seeing your tutorial. (Still don't have internet at the house) Loved seeing your work again. I had forgotten your way of making beads the same size. Once the weather is warm again and I can fire up the torch, and try your method.

I also cut my glass, but I have taken it one step further...if you are using a press, weigh a bead that fits in the press. (I have a good gram scale) Then weigh and cut your glass to the correct amount. If you are doing heavy decorating, take off a small amount. I can now make the perfect amount for my press...nugget, lentil etc etc. No more guessing if it is going to be enough. Weighing also works good because rods are different diameters.
