Maybe some small icicles? You could practice hook loops. A very good skill to have.

yes Glacon is the correct word .. i did look up on google.. but dint get it right ..
It seem nice to put in the christmas tree
Only thing i have one 6mm clear rod left .. i wanna keep it for a marble lol and i find it hard to have a good heat control on the 6mm rods.. Im limited in stringer color to : light blue.. green.. orange.. red.. white or ivory..
I still gonna try with the light blue for mini one Whats the trick ?
You heat middle of the rod than let it cool a little and than heat the 2 legs while twisting ?

Hot glass and red hot metal. You can use copper, or steel. Never galvanized, it can make gases that are very bad to breathe.

I like to make marbles, they are addictive. Anything I mess up on gets turned into a marble.

Making your own stringer is a good practice to learn heat control and how different colors melt and how much time it takes them to stiffen up again.
The nice thing about icicles is that you can practice with the clear or transparent colors and then use the icicle as a normal rod when you want to use the clear or transparent for something else.
Playing with one color 'off mandrel' like that can give you a feel for the glass without using it up.
A lot of my initial melting wound up melted back into a blob and pulled as stringer or (when I have the patience) pulled back into a normal sized rod.
I still have 3/4 of a pound of intense black frit that was half the cost of intense black rod and when I just want to play with fire I melt the frit into a glob and try to pull very thick stringer from it.

Shawnette it just dawned on me that I can make pushpins with my silver laden glass for easy samples and put them in a piece of cork on the cabinet the glass lives in, perfect way to help me learn which does what!
