After posting my comment about the photos and hearing what others had to say it made me consider the fact that I could be wrong about several of the photos being out of focus in the Water archive I purchased. Today I had lunch with a lampwork friend and showed her the photos on the Ipad and her comment to me after looking through the photos was several look out of focus and the detail in the beads on some pictures was lost. I also had a photographer friend look at the photos and he also said several are out of focus. He also stated I was probably being too critical because it was apparent the photos were taken by an amateur and not meant to be thought of as professional quality.
So all this being said, I do offer an apology to Kim for being too critical of the quality of the photos. I know the lampwork community is very grateful anytime she chooses to stick her head in

Ouch. Thanks for the "apology." What can I do to get you to not apologize anymore?

Oh no, did I make things worse? I truly meant my apology. I guess I should have kept it to myself. I would say "sorry" but I suppose you don't want to hear that

My bad... I misremembered the name! It's http://www.lightningsource.com. From what I hear from small-press owners, the quality is quite high, and they can supply directly to distributors which means your book can be ordered through all major booksellers.

It's been about three years since I did my research and things may have changed, but at the time it was definitely the way to go and I would hope they've kept up with competition.

I love the e-book and I thank you for all the work it took to pull together so many sets..

I bought it because of this thread - and I think it is wonderful. I find myself opening it throughout the day and just staring at the beads.............the fire section is my favorite being a "hot ticket" kind of girl. I've ordered some of the colors and can't wait to start playing. Buy it, it's worth it and you will love it!

How funny, I'd never considered not printing the entire archive! It did take lots of ink and of course, lots of paper; but the whole archive is well and truly worth every dot of ink and every cent spent on it.

There are lots of wonderful colour ideas to inspire me. While there are no 'recipes' as such, just knowing the sequence of colours makes lots of lightbulbs go off!

Kim's hints at the end are great, along with her suggestions for colour research.

I agree.

Kim's pictures are exceptional! I only mentioned the quality of the pictures in PRINT being a bit pixelated. On my screen they are crisp and clear and 2000 times better than anything I could ever accomplish. While I doubt Kim considers her self a professional photographer, her pictures are damn good for an AMATURE PHOTOGRAPHER. PFFFT. The best I've seen on this board. Maybe your photographer friend could use a day of trying to photograph glass. It needs to be entirely color accurate, sharp, well lit but not so much that it washes things out or glares. What ever. I'm pissed that you had the gall to come here and say that. It was mean, and critical and completely and utterly RUDE.

Where's Christopher. I need Christopher. GIVE ME MY CHRISTOPHER!

I'd like to add my positive comments on Kim's color archive. I was kindly gifted a copy via the AGLF grab bag event and I can't tell you how thrilled I am with all the fabulous information and gorgeous photos. I honestly feel the photos are top notch and if these were taken by an amateur photographer, I hope to attain your level of "amateur skill" someday

I give the archive a blazing 10 out of 10!

Thanks to Kim for providing the community with such a fantastic resource! You rock!

It is really pathetic that once again an opinion on a subject that was started by YOU Jamie Lynn has turned into a bashing party. I shouldn't be surprised. Year after year this goes on when someone states an opinion different from the masses against someone they idolize. I really shouldn't even respond to your childish high school antics, but I think I will. In the first place I NEVER said Kims archive wasn't worth purchasing. In fact, I have purchased several of Kim's tutorials and not once did I come to a thread and mention anything about the pictures or quality of them. In fact, when I came to this thread it was to get everyones opinion of the tutorial. I decided to purchase it due to those opinions. AFTER I purchased the tutorial I read the posts about the photo quality. When I opened the archive I noticed the photos were indeed not the quality I would have expected from an Ebook costing $60 whether it be Kim's or anyone else. I find it totally amusing how YOU are the one that mentioned the photo quality initially and then when I post my opinion I become a target of your little witch hunt. You immediately backed down from your own post when Kim posted a comment to it. I guess you got afraid you might have offended one of your idols. You and several others are the type that could be thrown a dog bone by your glass idols and fight to the death over it because their hand touched it. Get a life. If you aren't woman enough to stand up for your OWN comments when the heat gets turned up then don't come bashing those of us who are. As far as your statements about my PROFESSIONAL photographer friend, he would consider you and your statements a joke. Thank you for trying to set me and my friend straight on what a bead photograph should look like. It's too bad you haven't been able to use your own advice on your own photographs. Every bitter, nasty, ugly thread on LE is always started by someone like you. Kim and I had our exchange of thoughts earlier in this thread and it was done and over with. But no, here you come to fan the flames and show your undying love and support even though you are the one that started the discussion about the photo quality. I still STAND by my opinion of the photos. In the real world, if someone purchased a picture book for $60 and the pictures were pixelated and out of focus they would be very upset and probably demand a refund. But no, not here, not if you are in a select group. Now if you aren't in that group, beware if you try to sell a tutorial that isn't perfect you will be crucified and no one will want to fight your battle!

Vena,

I really don't want to stir the pot too much and rarely get involved in such things but I don't think the issue in question that people are objecting to is so much a dispute whether or not the pictures are of a professional caliber. As someone who is quite new to the forums with little reason to support any particular party, I can say objectively that some of your comments came across in an unnecessarily callous tone. Perhaps posting your criticisms publicly in this forum would have been better dealt with via private messages initially to give Kim a chance to address your concerns. From what I've read in this thread, she has given great consideration to the polite requests for a high def print version of her archive so perhaps it's just that you could have handled your concerns in a more polite manner there may have been less controversy? After all, the photos in this archive are there for reference, not to blow up and hang on your wall (although I wouldn't mind doing that lol) so I would personally not have been quite so quick to scrutinize the images within, rather the wealth of information!

Again, don't take this as an attack...just my two cents fwiw

Maybe you mis-read dear Vena. I encourage you to go back and RE-read all of my comments. I stated that my PRINTED version was pixelated. NOT the PHOTOS on my screen. I love how you talk about me like you have had a run in with me before. Carry on my dear, carry on.

Vena,
I appreciate your opinion and I'm so sorry that you have been a bit abused here. This is exactly why I included my email address. I knew that any poster with an opinion that wasn't glowing would be tied to the whipping post. It seems unfair but unfortunately the norm here.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to post their opinion here.

Just my opinion but I think this should stop as it seems we have hijacked this thread. initially it was one person's opinion but has gotten blown up. Please let's enjoy the super info and wait for a high def version. Thanks for listening.

I've never had a run in with you before. I don't know anything about you other than what you have posted here. You stated the photos were pixelated. Then Kim went on to explain they were pixelated she believed because of the resolution. I looked at my archive and notices several photos were out of focus. That is all I said to begin with. I never said "don't buy this archive or it's not worth the money" I just stated a fact about some of the photos being out of focus in the archive I purchased and they are. I didn't ask for a refund or anything I just stated a fact. Then several other people stated they thought their photos were perfect. So I thought maybe I was wrong so I asked for feedback from a professional photographer and a lampwork friend. They concurred that several were out of focus. So I come back to apologize for making the statement. Apparently, I didn't sugar coat or waltz around what I had been told by the others that viewed the photos and it pissed some of you off. Those that know me know I'm upfront and I say exactly what I think whether or not the masses like it or not. I repeated what I was told by a professional photographer who I respect and another lampworker who knows what bead photos should look like. The nuts and bolts of this whole thing is this. You started the statement about the photo quality. I added a post with my thoughts of the photos. Looking at the archive I believe the photos to be those that Kim had previously taken for Ebay or her website, not new photos especially for this archive. If that is the case, the photos wouldn't be the quality expected for printed form or for an ebook. I don't see where your statement about the print quality should be any different than my statement about the viewing quality. Both qualities are meant for viewing. In fact, when you download the archive it says you may download it twice and print it once. To me that says it should be of equal quality no matter which way I choose to view it. I chose to view on my computer and Ipad. Some of the photos were out of focus. You wanted to print and the you stated the photos were pixelated. I didn't attack you for your comment on the photos. But you certainly chose to attack me for my comment on the photos. I believe I have a right to my opinion without being attacked by you or anyone else. I didn't attack your post about the pixelation problem. I didn't attack those that stated their photos were excellent. I was the one that was attacked by YOU. So who is at fault?

Pattybeads, I hope this stops too. I hate it when this happens to a thread, but I'm not one to sit and let someone attack me and not respond. I've said what needed to be said and I will not continue this childish bickering any longer on this thread. This thread was meant to discuss the archive and whether or not to buy it and I chose to purchase it because of this thread. The thread should remain dedicated to the subject and not to Jamie Lynn and myself.

Just to be clear, Vena, I stated that about the book before I knew that the PDF was a lower resolution file. I thought that the printer had caused them to be pixelated, I was unaware that it was lower resolution file. I wanted people that were going to potentially order one from my source to be aware that they would be a bit off, because I told people that I would report back about the quality of the book that I received. Once again, I'll say it, it isn't that bad. When I say a tiny bit, I really do mean just a tiny bit.

You are entitled to your opinion. So is your photographer friend... it's the way you said it that made it insulting.

I don't know Kim. I wouldn't consider her my idol. I like her beads, and I like her style. I can't afford to buy her beads! So, I settle for a printed version of ALL of them, and the information I needed to potentially recreate a few of my favorites on my own.

When you don't agree with someone who posts: you're part of a clique defending an idol.

When you do agree with someone who posts: you're part of the community, expressing your opinion.

I have the archive now also, and I think it's beautiful and useful. Thank you, Kim.

Kim, on the subject of creating the option of a printed book, here is a good article:

http://dbeckerman.wordpress.com/prin...d-photo-books/

What you want is "Print on Demand". That way you may have to pay an initial "setup" but the books are purchased on demand by the buyer and you get whatever profit margin you work into it. No "bulk product" sitting around.

This one looks good:

Thanks for the links, Debbie. I'll check them out.

I just want to thank all of those who've posted opinions here and say that I value all of the feedback people take the time to share about my tutorials, whether it's positive or negative. Obviously I appreciate it when those with criticisms make the effort to express them in a kind and considerate manner, but it's important to me to know how people think the publications can be improved. So in my mind, it's all good, and I sincerely hope that all of those following this discussion and contributing to it feel welcome to be honest about their opinions, whatever those opinions are.

Still exploring the options for high-res and printed versions, and will keep everyone posted.

I was actually going to buy this "tut" today, right now actually. I just came here to get the link.

But now I have a question: Kim are you offering the high res down load as well? I'd probably have some pages printed (not all 152) and although a book would be great I have issues with mail coming to argentina.

Thanks in advance.
