I have been working on ring tops and have found that the Smircich Button Masher that I got from Arrow Springs is awesome to keep the disk really slim. You frequent makers have probably all figured that out, but I thought I would share just in case. Jeri

I have one of those and I didn't think to use it! Thanks, Jeri!

Default screwthread

Hello all, just jumped in here ... here is a link to all the tech info on screwthreads. The M2,5 is standard ISO coarse, you can see the pitch in the table under ISO coarse.
The finer screwthread is usually presented as M2.5F, or something like that.
http://www.gewinde-normen.de/en/

I am a goldsmith, though retired, and I have some ideas of making silver thingies with screws (not using PMC)- but I am also in doubt how to fasten the screw.
Normally I would always solder metal parts, but soldering steel and silver is normally a no-go.
Cold connect, i can't get in my head how to cold connect a tiny screw - or even just a bit of screwthread wich I would prefer to use.
Glue - but is that really good enough?
Silver screwthread can be soldered, but is very soft and the thread is easily damaged.
Bronze or brass can be soldered too, a bit stronger than silver, but haven't been able to find anything in those materials.
What does other makers do? Not that I am going to copy what is on the market, I got my own ideas...

Any tips would be appreciated!

Kathe

Kathe,
You might repost this as a separate thread in the jewelry forum where it will get more views.

Kathe, in my sterling rings, the screws are cast in place - hope that helps!
