Hi, it does not matter if they are touching. I used to pile mine up on top of a ceramic blanket just to make sure everything stayed put. depends on the room you have, you could also stack them on mandrels and lay along the floor or each other.
I don't have the schedule to hand but basically the same schedule. You would just want to ramp up slowly, and maybe give them a good soak first, especially if you have a few.
