Default breathing regulator

Something is going on with my regulator (I think) could be my torch but not likely. I can't get it to stay steady it breathes up and down. Have had this problem some when using the minor with the concentrators and don't know why it happens, and it doesn't happen all the time. This is on my cudda and I am on tanked air not concentrators on it but the propane reg has a splitter on it and powers both the minor/concentrator set-up and the tanked air cuda.
Any ideas? I've already replaced the oxy reg so I know that is not the problem.

Hi Chris Ann!

First of all, what kind of regulator are you having issues with? A propane or oxygen one? Also, is it meant for high pressure (goes up to 200 psi or more) or low pressure (goes up to 20 or 40)?

I had this problem too a while ago and it was due my type of propane regulator. The regulator I received is meant for high-pressure settings. I think it goes up to 200 or something like that. Because of the high range for the regulator, it's not meant to be set a low setting like 3-5 psi for our torches. As such, I simply bumped up the regulator to a setting of 20 or 25, and it solved the breathing problem.

If you have a low pressure regulator, then the diaphram inside the t-screw may be going out. Those can wear out over time, I've heard, so you may need to look into replacing it.

I hope that helps!

Thanks,
Karla

I'll just echo what Karla said. Try bumping up the pressure.

should I take it to the air gas store to have the bladder thingy changed? It is a prop reg I got from AS a number of years ago. It's a low pressure one as the psi gauge only goes to 15 before it red lines.
thanks

Yeah, I would have them take a gander at it. If it's breathing and it's a low pressure regulator, it sounds like your diaphram/bladder is going out.

Good luck!
