Default best colours to use to etch transparent glass

I am a beginner and I am just starting to etch some of my glass beads. I use COE 104 glass and was wondering if anyone has favourite colours that they use. I am particularly interested in making the glass look like beach glass in colour. I like blues and greens but not not dark colours. Any suggestions or photo out there?? I am especially interested in a pale to medium aqua colour.

Hi Windsong, and welcome to the addiction!

Go to the Frantz Art G!ass website, ( frantzartlass.com) home page. Scroll down past the sale ads until you see the notice for the blog. Under the blog notice you will see a red box titled "online color palette". Click on that and you will be taken to a palette picker. Here you can see lots of co!or options in one place. Be sure you select 104COE. I'm sure there are other online color charts but this is an easy one to start with.

Good luck and have fun!
Helene

Pale emerald green is a fabulous 'coke bottle' colour.

Pale aqua is another great 'sea glass' colour

lavender transparent is another one.

I like to use recycled bottles to make etched 'sea glass' beads from too.

As you are only using one colour at a time you have no compatibility issues.

I use pale blue, green and clear bottles. Break them with a hammer. (first wrapping in a couple of teatowels.)

Preheat in the kiln, or carefully heat in the flame. Then I just make beads straight from the shard.

Windsong, I see that Art Glass East (an LE member) also has a glass palette on her website. Also the recycled bottle idea from Nicole is a great idea. You will have so much fun with this!

(I see that you are a new-ish member. Do check out The Bathroom every once in a while. The peeps there are a nice bunch, as are *all* LE members!)

Best regards,
Helene

I'm a big fan of encasing pastel colors with transparents then etching. Try different color combos for unlimited possibilities!

or the other way around, colored transparents with white cores or "hearts". Either way, when the encased beads are etched, they just seem to glow.
