Default Redone Studio: Moved in and almost ready

Well...the majority of the work is done in the studio space. Yay!

I thought it might be helpful if I posted/shared some photos and descriptions. You never know when someone might be able to take an idea and improve or adapt it.

Space description:

My studio space is in what is called a "garden garage" by our home builder. Our subdivision lots are narrow at the front and wide at the back. Sometimes they are not wide enough to accomodate 3-car garages. Builders compensate by adding a walk-out garage space in the back, on the lower level. (This is the space where people typically store their riding lawn mowers, ladders, bikes, lawn furniture, and other stuff. It's kind of nice because when your front garage doors are open, people driving by in the street can't see that accumulation of things we all have in there with the cars.)

The studio space is the size of a one-car garage--19' x 10'. One of the long walls is a poured concrete foundation, the other three walls are sheet-rocked. The floor is sealed and polished concrete. There is no HVAC ducted into the space. I had electrical installed by a licensed electrician and Time Warner installed the cable for TV. I put in the track lighting and built everything else. Originally, the exterior opening [into the backyard] consisted of two 4' hinged steel doors that opened out from the middle. One of the first things I did was to replace those doors with a glass slider to flood the space with light. The glass doors are right under the deck, which is nice. It's protected during the rain and snow.

Studio Redo:

The studio remodeling occured over the course of about 18 months. I had many of the supplies and some of the furniture, but added the final pieces in the last few months. I have been working in silver and beadwork since college. I started lampworking in 2009. None of my supplies were organized like I wanted (I was working out of bins and boxes)--so it is pretty awesome to finally have this space almost completed. I have budgeted to purchase a little each month and have slowly added to my tools, equipment, and supplies. The new ventilation system is next. It will be installed in two weeks.

All of my furniture is on wheels with locking casters. Every piece of furniture was purchased at Sam's Club. It was designed to be stainless restaurant furniture, I think? But, I especially like the sturdy construction, the metal table tops, and that the pieces can be rolled around and reconfigured whenever I choose.

Here are some recent photos...

Looking South at East Wall--Looking toward glass doors

Looking North at East Wall--Soldering cart is in foreground

Glass Doors looking out onto backyard--walkout exterior entrance/exit
If I ever create a gallery, this may be the customer entrance--hence the door logo.

The North wall has bead storage in jars.
The carts with drawers contain sorted and packaged inventory.
The wooden gate keeps the dogs out or in--depending on what I need at the moment.

The long west wall has a rack for glass storage and other storage (photography, leather, etc.)
The torching bench is on this wall in the south corner, near the door.
My kiln sits between the glass storage and the torch bench.
The torch area is in an "L" shape.

Gee, I guess that's about it for the tour!

Thanks for visiting!
