Default Fuming

Hi,
Can you use coin silver, say from an old mercury dime, for fuming?
Thanks,
John

No, it's got to be pure silver, it's toxic all on its own but much more so if you include impurities

Search fuming here, there's a whole thread on it

go to the jewelers or coin shoppe. get "casting grain" or just a coin that has no collector value.
you can also use sterling....almost everyone has some sterling jewelry laying around. some will say don't use sterling.....but plenty of people do use it.

good ventilation is key when fuming. also, less is more. you really don't want to be able to see the fume after you fume.....fume you can see is usually too much fume.

lots of info over on TMP.

Get fine silver bezel from a jewelry supplier. you can order what you want and it comes in a roll ez to use. I put mine on the end of a quartz rod. Big helpful thread in here somewhere.
