Default Dark Ivory: Vetro vs Effetre

How is Vetrofond Dark Ivory different from Effetre? I am watching an auction of the Vetro, and curious about the premium it seems to command.

I've always been curious about that myself. I much prefer Effetre dark ivory to Vetro. Even when you could still get it for normal price.

Vitro is better for things like Claudia's kids. There are no color changes when you add glass to eyes and face.

With heat blast and long work time, I can pull "honey" to the surface of the vetro. For some applications that would be a bad thing, but I like it for organic beads and bones. I also think webbing is more subtle than on Moretti, but that is probably because it is a tad darker than Moretti. The vetro would vary more batch to batch, so sometimes it would do cool things like give a "curdled" effect. I've always stored each batch separately for this reason. I could be mistaken, but it think the coveted River Rock was an "off" batch of dark ivory that became an instant hit.

Vetro Light Ivory is the one worth big bucks IMO.

Modern Effetre dark ivory seems to have changed formula.

It no longer reacts with silver like it used to, instead of beautiful webbing, many people are reporting that it looks greyish and plastic.

So, that means that any vintage dark ivory is commanding higher prices.

Oh no! Hopefully they just screwed up a large batch. Very disappointing.

Well poop.

I recall someone else posting about the new stuff ... that sucks.

Good thing I stocked up several years ago. And then got enamored of Stone Ground, so still have a pile of the good stuff.

Dark ivory is one of the few reasons I don't switch entirely to 96.
