Drill Press to Make Bead Caps?
I have arthritis and there is simply no way I can hammer on a dap and block to dome bead caps. I'd like to make my own though, and I was wondering if anyone had experience using a drill press with a dap bit. I was looking at this one:
Although I'm not sure if this will work, with the dap spinning. I'm just thinking there has to be an easier way for me than hammering.

A drill press will definitely work. An Arbor press is much smaller, though, and will work just as well.
You don't turn the press on when using it, so the spinning is a non-issue.

My dad gave me an old drill press of his and even made a couple of custom bits to use for coring beads! I haven't used it enough to get comfortable with it, and then I moved (a year ago!) and haven't gotten everything setup yet. Given it's potential power, it seemed like a bit of overkill at first, but is definitely easy on the operator--no physical force or turning motion is needed.

Do you have a bead liner like the Nortel bead liner? If so, you can just use that for doming bead caps...you just need a dapping block.

My mind went to a sliding weight on a rail of some sort.
You could lift the weight on a rope and pulley and let it fall instead of swinging a hammer.
My creativity often gets ahead of my good sense so fell free to pick this apart until we figure out why it won't work for you.
Arthritis is not something I would wish on my worst enemy.
You would not have access to some teenagers inclined to trade lessons for hammering would you?
