Default Easy Boro Leaf Tutorial (softglass too!) off-mandrel

Hi peeps! This was featured in the Women In Glass issue of The Flow... but I also thought I'd post it on my website.

This tutorial was made for borosilicate glass, however, I tried it in softglass and it works for that too!

Just thought I'd share!

ps: I'd love to see the ones you've made!

Josie, I think you can get them at Arrow Springs, or Frantz....
I know there are other styles, but the one I use is cheap and does the job!

That is a wonderful tutorial, thank you so much.

Now I need to get those tweezers and the hemostats soon, that has to make it all easier.

That is really lovely!

I've never seen anyone make the loop first...what a great idea.

I've seen people make loops separate, then keep them hot and attach them...but never saw a loop formed first. I must live a sheltered glass life. LOL

Thanks for sharing!

Me, either....but it makes good sense because making the loop is the hard part....

I've made off mandrel pendants with a loop....and the loop discombobulates me. Gonna try the loop first!

There is nothing quite like the feeling of ruining a cool piece by screwing up the loop. I have cracked so many projects by spending too much time trying to finish it off. This sounds like a great approach. Especially since I also am quite 'backwards'.
Thanks for sharing

GREAT TUTE.... Thanks Jo! The color is gorgeous on your leaf.

I've been making these out of soft glass and do all the shaping by hand because I don't have leaf mashers....Looks like the leaf mashers save a lot of time!!!!

Great tut. Since I do most things backwards I can't wait to try your approach to making a loop.

I'm not a boro person and the leaf mashers I have are BIG. So I won't be doing this for a while. Maybe without the mashers? I like the idea of doing the loop first. I can be a bit contrary myself!
The colours are beautiful in your tut and the leaf looks great.
Thanks very much for sharing it Jo.

Sleeky shut her site down when she was having trouble with her neck. I hope she has it up and running again soon, but she gave me permission to put the tutorial up on my site before she shut hers down....

I'm about to remove this from my site, since it appears to be confusing people as to who wrote it. I think its clearly stated that its Jo's tutorial and reposted with her permission, but since it still seems unclear, just wanted to let y'all know. I'll leave it up for another week for anyone who wants it, but after that, it'll be gone.

The tutorial is also on the Midwest Creative Collective website. Not much happens there anymore but there are some good tutorials there.

I've been making lots of (104) leaves lately, but haven't tried doing the loop first. Will definitely give this a try! Thanks!
