Default swirls on the outside?

Duh...I can't believe i don't know this but when you do the Kimberley type of swirls on the outside of a bead, do you add glass (like dots maybe) first?

Della, doll...I'm trying to picture what type of "swirls" you mean! I know we have a few "Kim" and "Kimberley" members, so no diss on them...just not positive what you mean! Can you point me to an Etsy link that will give me a visual?

Do you mean Kimberly Affleck who does the beautiful organic beads and the seahorse beads? She has been making swirls around the edges of her seahorse beads for a while now. I watched her do it at the Bash. I'm sure she wouldn't mind if I explained what I saw her do but I'll wait to see if she wants to pop in here to help you.

ah now thats no big secret

heat the spot you want to twist and using a clear stringer plunge it in and twist, blow on the stringer and snap it off. if you want a plunged dot on that spot then heat the end of the clear stringer (or any other colour) and put a neat dot of clear on the spot you just twisted, heat the dot and poke it with a pick then heat another dot of clear and place it over the top, gently heat to round it out

here is kimberly seahorse tutorial in the flow

I didn't know about the tutorial in the Flow but yes, that's what she did at the Bash. She heated an edge, cut into the hot glass, heated it more, grabbed it with tweezers and twisted. I haven't tried it yet but it looked like lots of fun.

I'm sure she must mention this in the tutorial but be REALLY careful when you snip glass. Make sure it's pliable enough to cut into and don't hit a cold area. I cut through pliable glass into cold glass one time and the piece broke off and flew down my shirt. It left scars. ow, ow, ow, ow!

And now please forgive my , but I've done this too! Ain't fun...but I'm sure from an outside observer's position, interesting to watch the "hot glass down my shirt dance"!
