Default Tips for Opal like beads

A friend would like a BHB that resembles an opal for his girlfriend's birthday. Sure said I.... what was I thinking? I've spent most of the afternoon (okay, most of the day) trying to make just one bead.

Have tried just using opalino pink (and green), with and without silver foil, encased and not encased, silver over white encased, white with frit encased, they will all hit the bad bead vase I have when they come out of the kiln.

Anyone have any other suggestions.

Try Amber's Fire Opal tut (it's free!): http://lampworketc.com/forums/showth...ight=opal+bead

Amber put up a free tutorial for her fire opal beads here-
http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...ighlight=opals

I've used silver blue, rainbow and/or red family dichroic over a light color like blue for white opals, mostly of BE using an encasement of Mist but that's no longer available I don't think. Using 104 and provided it's the right batch, CIM Cirrus might be a good stand in. It's a bit more moonstone-ish though.

eta- I type slow. lol
eta again- pic of the BE ones. They were better in person.
