Default Call for Entries - In Time for the Holidays Contest

The Annealer Magazine is conducting it's 2nd contest. There is no fee to enter. There will be 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners from 5 categories (lampworked beads, jewelry design, ceramic beads, precious metals and off mandrel small sculpture), and one grand prize winner whose design will appear on the front cover of our next issue! All 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners will also be published in the 4th issue of the magazine... not to mention all the other great prizes that will be awarded!

The Rules and Entry form are now posted on the site!

So what are you waiting for? Get that torch out, turn on the kiln, and pull out those beading supplies!

Marilyn

here's the link http://www.theannealermagazine.com/I...e_Holidays.htm

PS - We'll be adding information on a special contest for newbies later on this month... and we'll define "newbie" so you'll know if you can enter or not.

Nope. It says in the rules:

Quote:
Off Mandrel Glass Designs and Small Sculpture: Designs created with a torch and glass (hard, soft, etc.) without the use of mandrels. The use of press tools or molds is prohibited.
I have a hard time making them without molds...

good point Cosmo - - that's why The Annealer reserved the right to add or take away categories!

I just added Marbles to the "off mandrel" category. Marble molds are the only accepted mold that can be used in this contest and it can only be used for "marbles." (since many people use marble molds for other non-marble glass items).

Get started on your marble. Remember though, we need to have at least 10 entries in each category for it to remain in the contest.

Thanks,
Marilyn

How about vessels? I make solid core which technically uses a mandrel, but a lot of people blow vessels.

MadHatter - (HI!!!). Vessels made using a solid mandrel that has a loop or some way of passing thread, wire or a chain through some part of the glass so it can be used as a focal "bead" would be considered in the bead category, and vessels which are blown would be in the off mandrel category.

Cosmos you can only submit 1 design per category.

Sorry, if this sounds like a silly question, but does this mean that the top 3 winners will have to send the piece they have created to the annealer?

Is there a design theme for the entries or can they be anything?

Sylvie - yes, that is correct.
Disa - no, there is no specific design theme.

Just wanted you all to know that the winning entries will not become the property of The Annealer Magazine. The deadlines have been extended one additional month (except for the early bird entry which has already been awarded).
