There are two things that come to mind:
Do you want a bead with a spiral design on it? These are accomplished (I believe!) with some kind of design tool, pressed into hot glass.
If you want a disk that looks like wound glass, I've done a few, and it's something that will do you good to know even if you don't want a spiral disk...
Apparently, it is the key to a great footprint base bead.
One makes a spiral, and then melts it down into a bead.
If you just want the spiral, you just STOP when the spiral is done, and pop it in the kiln.
The trick (I've found) is finding the spot in your torch where you can keep the disk cooler, and yet have the glass come off the rod without tugging and yanking. If you find that spot, start winding! Keep going, and don't stop until you get a height you want. Once it's at that height, twirl the disk faster so that your glass thins out into nothing around the bead. (if you just stop, you'll probably leave a lump)
It's tough to keep them straight up and down. If it gets wonky, you can take mashers and straighten them out again, but at the risk of smooshing the nice spiral design.
Here's where it clicked for me:

Plus, there are probably WAY better people out there , but this is my example. I had a good disk day.
