Kobuki is the house!!!
Subject: Kobuki is in the house ..... sorry for that....
Finally,
after months of waiting it is here....
....my brand new custom colored GTT KOBUKI torch!!!!!
And here it is, all black finish with red control knobs and valves. Isn't that a beauty?
Endless firepower!
A total of 54 ports - 7 on the Lynx center fire, 15 on the middle Phantom ring and another 32 on the outer Kobuki ring.
Last night I have finished to connect up my new GTT Kobuki torch - ready for usage today!
I am using quick release couplings on the original Kobuki hoses to connect all 3 stages together one one supply for oxygen and gas for now. I might use a foot pedal later on for the middle and outer stage though.
Connected it all up for the first torch test..... OMG - That's hot!!!!!!
More on that later this week.
Ready mounted torch with cleaned up desk and finished mounted hoses beneath the table top.
Flame on!
Michael

Michael,
I run a Kobuki also. Awesome torch. Your's is georgeous; love the colors. I notice two things in your setup that are glaringly bad.
1. propane tank inside the studio.... very dangerous!
2. The quick connects you are using are for air service. They are not rated for oxygen nor for fuel gases that is if they are the same as the identically appearing ones here in the US. They will leak and are also very dangerous!. Here in the US most all the glass workers have standardized on the Western Industries QCs made primarily for the welding industry. More expensive than the ones you have but they don't leak and since everyone uses them it is easy to move torches around to other places.
And how did you get that bench so clean and orderly????

Buy a case of sunscreen! You're going to need it! Happy new torch! It sure is pretty.

Well, your point 1 is maybe valid - although here in Europe almost every glass worker has the propane tank inside the studio! (It's also allowed by law and insurance will cover any claim in connection to that)
I have to negate your point 2 though - these quick connects ARE rated for gas and oxygen and are NOT for air! AND, they are quite expensive, about USD 50 for one set. They are 100% safe, do not leak at all! They are made in Germany by the company WITT http://www.wittgas.com, Type is SK 100 and complies with DIN 7289 - EN 561
The bench - well - it's brand new and never used before. This is our second torch place I built for the Kobuki.
@BellaBean: I am going to use a pair of kevlar sleeves, but thanks for the hint!
Cheers
Michael

I stand corrected...sorry but they look exactly like several cheapo US brands that are awful, leak like crazy and sometimes even disconnect; sold to weekend mechanics for their air compressor tools.

No problem, I am always going for the high quality (and more expensive) parts - safety first! And btw - the gas tanks are just inside the studio when we are working there, otherwise they are stored outside the house in our garage.

I will do that tonight, going to dial in all different kind of major flame types and make pics of them.

Very nice set up I like the clips you have holding the hoses in place under the bench. Did you buy them on line?

You can get them local or online. They're rope light clips. You can also use cable clips, used to organize computer cables.

Unfortunately I catched the flu and was nocked out for some days.
Yesterday night I wanted to take some pictures of different flame types after a marble session, but when I fired up the torch at full power I fried my ventilation system a bit......
Now I am working on a solution to reduce the heat hitting my vent......
I'll be back!

This is what a 2++ year old one with a lot of use looks like.
We have it hooked up to a dual foot pedal, and we use it for everything from the tiniest soft glass bead, to very large solid sculpture. You basically have 4 torches in one, and combinations of flames you can't get with other torches. It is also a great torch for blown work and you can get nice soft narrow, or very wide flames with it.
The only downside to the black powder coat paint on the barrel is that if a chip of hot glass pops onto it, it will leave a raised burnt paint mark. I don't think that there is a better multi-purpose torch, at least I've never seen it.
Enjoy your new torch, and a big thanks to John for getting GTT to make it!

Ed,
good choice of colors for your torch!
I was thinking about my ventilation heat problem during the past days and came up with an idea.
I am going to replace my current vent with a stronger one and will add a second air duct using a Y junction. The second air intake will only be used to suck in cold air (room temperature) which is going to be mixed with the hot air coming from my ventilation hud in the ratio of 1:1. By doing that the hot air is cooled down quite a bit and the temperature inside the vent will go down. I hope that will do the trick.
Pictures will follow once it is set up.
Cheers
Michael
