Default PLEASE NEED QUICK HELP!! Need to buy oxy tanks!

So of course the One of the last things I try to do before we leave in our mobile shop is Buy Some OXy tanks either size 244 or 300. I get to my oxy place and they do not sell them wich is a bunch of crap I think they a huge supplier in our area and have a wearhouse full of tanks when I go change mine in. but they dont sell em and Neither does anyone else Ive called. Well one person did but said they were Q tanks and that it was 80 cubic feet or somethin but she said that was smaller than what I was looking for. AGHHHHH.................... Im Supposed to leave FRI in mobile shop.....and now Im might be delayed for second time unless yall got an answer for me quick.

WHERE CAN YOU BUY A OXY TANK with the appropriate paper work saying I own the tank so I can have it filled on the road if need be????????????????? Hopefully I will jsut be filling it with an EX2000 but you never know.

I bought a K tank (244 I think) from Purity Cylinder Gases. I think they are mostly in Michigan and one location in Indiana. Not sure if that helps you or not. I have also seen some for sale on Craigslist.
Good Luck

Mine is from Airgas, that way whatever RV parks we are in, we can get refills from Airgas, because they are everywhere.

If you buy a tank off craigslist, most companies won't usually fill it. Liability hazard, insurance thing.

I bought an 80 CFH tank ( cause I don't torch that much and my Cricket doesn't use that much) and it cost me over $200.00 with a price break from Mike.

There's a code on the tank that shows it's owner owned. I think it's a star or the letter "o". Check at a welding supply place. I own my two tanks and have never had a problem filling them.

The customer owned tanks are painted white around the collar. The won't refill your tank, just swap it out for a filled one.

Have them show the date of the last Hydrotest and how to tell when it expires. (It is a system of star stamps)

The general pain in the neck, and wide variation in prices, forced me to get a OGSI generator. We paid a high of $37 for a 251 tank 10 years ago in Michigan. The OGSI was delivered to our RV park in Duluth shortly after that.

Steve, which OGSI model did you get? Did it increase your electricity bill by much?

I have owned my tanks for years. I just keep the paperwork saying I own them, and I have moved multiple times and have never had a problem exchanging tanks in a new city. Maybe I have an honest face, because I have never been asked to show my paperwork either. I dont have the big k tanks, mine are one size under, so I can physically handle them. I did check into getting a new tank last year, they are disgustingly expensive now and the my supply place said it takes MONTHS to get them now because there is only one manufacturer and they are over seas. it was like 400 bucks for my 4 ft tall tanks

Owner tanks have clean rings just under the cap 99 % of the time, meening no stampings.
While your on the road look for an airgas like Lorraine said there everywhere.

I got the OG-15, which is good for running smaller torches like my National 8M or a Minor Burner.

Thanks Steve, I need to keep this in mind because I may want to get one and for my smaller consumption torch it would perfect.

One point that all should know is that Airgas will set up an account for you and some areas have a 'lampworkers/glass blowers' account already in place. It reduced my refill costs from $34 per 'K' tank to $18 per tank. and I bought my last 2 'K' tanks for under $200 each.

Beware of craigslist or newspaper tanks; they are often stolen, as in borrowed from work, or otherwise not privately owned tanks and the gas suppliers will not fill them and may call the law and have the tanks confiscated. Buy only from known sources with documentation.
