Default Redmax port cleaning

Hey guys! Noticed I have some build up beginning on the ports on my Redmax. I purchased the torch used and didn't get the parts to do the cleaning. What can I go to the local hardware store and buy that will work? Maybe a round file or something like that. If so, what size would be safe? Thanks for any info.

Contact Nortel (google search) or use guitar wire/music wire. Clean the face with a brass brush for cleaning MIG/TIG welders.

Pick up a welding tip cleaner at lowes for 4 bucks - has all different size wires. I use one of these and it cleans up the nortel torches nicely but doesn't have wires small enough for some of the GTTs. When you bend or break the wires chuck it and pick up a new one.

i upgraded my midrange to a redmax, and i almost never had to clean the midrange.
now even after a couple hours on the redmax, there is carbon build up. what gives?
i've tried upping my line pressures, no help. this redmax is a dirty bastard.

Minuteman,
you want to be careful using welding torch cleaners, as they are small round files and can change the size of the ports on your torch over time. Most glass torch manufacturers suggest using music wire as it is smooth.

Istandalone,
Have you tried just increasing the amount of oxy? I know that my Nortel Rocket would carbon up like that if I didn't use enough oxy, even it I had a neutral flame. It got to the point, using the outer fire, that I would have to knock the clinkers off with a pair tweezers. That's one reason I retired it, and that it is an oxy pig.

yup, i have to knock clinkers off too. i've put my oxy psi as high as 40, and kept what i thought was an oxy rich flame. i think i'm not using enough oxygen though. i really need to play with some amazon night and see where it's at.
