Default How to strike colors and how to reduce

Hello! I am new to the forum and quite new to the lampworking hobby as well. Started at it 3-4 months ago and taught myself by a couple of books and watching youtube. I am from Norway so please excuse my English spelling isnt always perfect!

Here is my questions: I have some colors that are striking colors, how do I strike? And I have Terra2 double helix color, and I managed to get a beautiful purple and bluish color from it over canyon de shelly, but now I can not make it again, it turns green and blue or it turns very dark almost brown. How do I get that lovely purple that came that first time?

Irene

Hi Irene. Striking is a process of heating the glass really hot, cooling it until the orange glow is gone, and wafting it back in the flame to make the color bloom. It also can help to put clear over the striking glass. Dawn (Art Insomnia) has a great tutorial on silver glass.

Well worth it!

Reducing is changing the flame to more propane and less oxygen to bring out the silver. Hope this helps!

Double helix has a striking and reducing tutorial on their website made very simple and well. Also hints on working certain colors.

Does anyone have a link to the double helix site? I only found a site that was "under construction".
