Default need flashback arrestor help

Ok, I have studied until I have completely confused myself.

Here is what I have:
Nortel Minor torch
Oxycon with threaded fitting
Propane tank
Propane regulator

Now, what I need are a set of flashback arrestors and hoses.
I'd like torch mounted arrestors, but I'm worried about how far back the hoses will stick. I don't want their position to interfere with where the torch and I sit.

I've looked and looked, but I just can't make heads or tails of what brand, style, or product number I need to be purchasing.

Anyone able to make me a list of items I need to put it all together?

thanks

My suggestion is just to call one of the lampworking or gas suppliers and talk to the sales person. I usually purchase tools and stuff from Malcolm at Artco. He is knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and will let you know what you need. http://artcoinc.com/

For the concentrator end NO flashback is needed. Not enough pressure.

For the propane side just contact your local welding supply folks. Here is an example of a flashback used on the regulator side. See red arrow.

And you will need to purchase a "T" rated hose for the propane. Generally less costly at the welding shop in 25 foot lenghts. The side will have one green and one red hose bounded together. The end or ends can be cut off if not required.

Some shops have 'T' rated hose seperate from the green side. But you'll need the green hose also. If you get the dual hose you can split them apart.

I had the same concern about how far the torch mounted arresters would stick out. It turned out to be a non-issue, but it depends on the torch and how intimate you like to be with it. There's a picture of mine on this page. You'll only need one for the propane line.

Unfortunately my Minor has the barbed fittings on it. Not threaded. So the Flashbacks can't just screw in.

You can still mount the Flashback 'near' the torch. You'd have a short piece of hose (say, 12-18") between the torch and the Flashback, and then the long hose between the Flashback and the gas regulator.

Please note: Flashbacks are a 1-way device ... the gas can only flow one way through them. So, there is an inlet and an outlet. They will not work if you hook one up backwards. Also note: There are three different configurations of Flashbacks on the market:

Torch Mount - Male inlet, Female outlet

Regulator Mount - Female inlet, Male outlet

Inline mount - Male inlet, Male outlet

Most places sell the Regulator Mount Flashbacks. These are not interchangeable! However, you *can* use a Regulator Mount Flashback at the torch or inline, but you would need some Male-to-Male and/or Female-to-Female adapters.

Also remember, Gas hoses have a Left-hand thread, and Oxygen hoses have a Right-handed thread. You must use a Gas Flashback (and Gas adapters) on your Gas hose; you can not use an Oxygen Flashback or Oxygen adapters.

And, like others have already said, you do not need a Flashback on your Oxycon.
