Thumbs up Make your own frit easily

On the Dutch Glass Forum there was a neighbour of a forummember who makes a frit-stamp.

Take a look here:

The maker of the fritstamp has made a few fritstamp. But he was overwhelmed by all your emails. So he asked me to remove his emailadres. That's way I edited this message.

I had a bookmark of someone's site, that I found here on LE, that sells similar frit makers, made of pipe and fittings...I'll be darned if I can find it now though. Maybe someone else will post a link.

I keep thinking I'll get to a plumber's supply to get what I need to put one of these together but I never seem to get it done. It would probably be easier just to buy one afterall.

I really like the frit stamper in the video very much, Margriet! Much more streamlined than the pieces of pipe and fittings, and a nice welded base on it too. I'd buy one if someone was making them and selling them, for sure!

For something a bit larger.....
check out the video and the sifter/sorter.

http://www.vicartglass.com/specials%...%20Smasher.htm

Whatever kind of frit maker you make or buy, it's ESSENTIAL it's made of common steel so you can use a magnet to remove any metal particles that get into the glass while it's being smashed.

I have asked this to the Dutch maker of the Dutch Frit stamper.

I got this email from him:

Quote:

Translation:

The material of the fritstamp is made of stainless steel and is not magnetic. The same material is used for a pan, forks, knives and spoons.

The little parts that may come of the fritstamp is the same size of parts come of a soop-spoon scratching trough a stainless steel pan. Not to see with the eye, so you can ignore this in any way.

When the fritstamp would be made of common steel, then there will be rust cause by the damp in the air. That wil give more rust-parts between the frit then you will want to be, I think.

I hope that this will give more clarity.

And so hope I

Margriet, I just wanted to thank you again for offering this information on these frit makers that Johan makes.

I just got mine today. It didn't take long at all for it to get here considering how far it had to travel. Even with shipping included it ended up costing me less than other comparable frit makers that I've found information on.

I tried it out as soon as I took it out of the package and it's fabulous! It's a tool that will last me forever. Shorts aren't going to sit around for long now!

Thanks, Johan!

Hi Lil,

Thank YOU for letting me know. I am just as happy as you with this tool. You are just like me a lucky person, because Johan asked me to remove his email from LE, because he had to made so much fritstamps that he couldn't handle it.

So I did and removed also the movie of youtube. Because I don't want to show something you can just look at jealous.

I will forward your reaction to him. Thanks!

I made a frit crusher out of two pieces of plumbing pipe, one smaller than the other with an end thingy on it. Homedepot had it all for about $2.50.

I was wondering where that video went. From the picture, it looks like something I'd be more likely to use than the other ones....how does it work?

Thanks!! That looks like so much fun! I pity the glass that ticks anyone with one of those stampers off!!

My cat wasn't sure what to do about the person speaking in the video. He looked a little confused.

Interesting! Love the domain name!

Is there dangers related to glass dust with this? Such as the precautions for enamels?

Sorry for your cat... The person who is speaking is me... Well... I was a little nervous...

And about the dust.... just stand right up, stamp a few time and there is no dust you can breath in.

Hee. I think it was the foreign language that threw him off--Gorby looks confused when he hears some things. And freaks out when he hears babies cry. Must be flashbacks from his previous people (I got him from the pound)...

At any rate, that tool looks like way much fun. And pretty sturdy, too! Do you do anything to prepare the glass before you use it or do you just take it straight out of the bowl?

I use it immediatly, now I am collecting little fritbottles to save the frit in it.

I had bought this one, but it is full now and sold out...

Before the fritstamp, I made frit this way. Much more work and you had to wear glasses when you stamp your frit...
