Hey Jenn I'm going to include both in one. It is a really similar process, but I think judging from the responses that people will be happiest seeing the cane made with both glass types That way I can also show a round pupil and an oval pupil (round with soft and oval with boro). Eye canes are so much fun to make and the best part is you get TONS of eyes from about an hour's worth of work. I just spent a day doing eye canes (my best yet, I might add!) and now it will be quite a while until I have to do more. I'll probably get bored of these ones before I run out
Both demonstrations will be able to be used with either soft glass or boro, so even the person who does only one or the other will get their $$'s worth I'm honestly dying to see someone work these types of eyes into large soft glass focal beads. I can really picture some "totem-like" shapes...maybe out of ivory...with eyes set in them...YUM!!
I'm hoping to take the pics tomorrow and work on it over the weekend!!

Well crap My laptop just had to go in to be serviced and there is no way I am making this tut on the Desktop for soooo many reasons. The service guy told me it would probably take about a week because they would have to have any parts sent in.
Serious bummer. A week without my laptop!! I do EVERYTHING on my laptop. I had already started working on the tut and have pictures for about half of it, so once I get it back I plan to go full-steam ahead, but it sounds like it will be full-steam-ahead-a-week-behind *sigh* Anyway, for anyone who is waiting, I thought I'd let you know I'm so sorry!!

Oh bummer, however, considering I'm without a frig and waiting on a part I can wait.....LOL Living out of ice chests is NOT fun. However, I would rather live out of an ice chest than be without my laptop. We have a desktop but I have none of my favorites on it. That would be a serious bummer.
Go make some glass.....don't think about it

Need to use Zoho or Google Docs instead so your stuff's not on the machine.
sorry to hear about the ailing patient though, I definitely know how bad that sucks.

I'm hoping to have this done in about a week. My laptop still isnt' fixed properly but it's working well enough for me to finish this up...I think I'll keep you all updated! I think we are going to take pictures for the soft glass cane tomorrow and then we just have pictures of the extra "stuff" like how to cap and set the eyes so they look real

Well Pipyr, I can sure relate to your puter problems. I lost mine last night. It just keeps looping in the book segment. All of my business files, bead photos for the business and everything else you can imagine. I'm just sick about it. The manufacturer says to just reinitialize it and start over. Easy for them to say. I know we are responsible for the things on our computers but this is my fourth Toshiba and I have never had day one of a problem. And to make matters much worse the warranty was up a week ago.
Nothing, nada, I lost it all. So, take your time Pipyr. I can only imagine what your going through. I know what I lost.
Not to mention the tons of tutorials I have purchased on here. Luckily I have hard copies of most of them but that's it. Stupid me.

I tried it and after I hit the pay button on Paypal, I got some kind of error message that told me to wait about a day and see if the transaction showed up or not. Crap.

I did it! Making the cane was both cool and fun. Using it, I need some ppp! My clears were not that clear when making the lens and I surely used the wrong clear to attach to final punty. Here are some pics and don't blame Pipyr! It's definitely a case of "user needs ppp!"
Sorry but it was all but impossible to get a focus on the up close pics of the eye cane. The slices were just to see if I could get a better shot. The beads are similar to the one that Pipyr made as a demo of an eye cane bead... yeah, it's a copy but it was for testing/training purposes only. I have no plans to rip Pipyr off in selling beads that look like hers.
It's a start! The eye cane tutorial is well worth the price, folks.

Woohoo Sue!! Very cool! Don't worry about making beads that look like mine from the tut...you know I'm never going to go anywhere with those because I don't make beads. Someone might as well take the idea and run with it The eyes look great!! Maybe try to leave the silver off the beads and see if the problem with the clear is the haze building up from the silver? I have to say I used moretti clear for a bit and really had to work far out in the flame...it's crap as far as I'm concerned. Then I realized I had a single rod of laucha clear and it was so much better!!

Thank you Pipyr. I feel so much better I have to dig out my dusty box of Boro that I have had for well, about 9 years I'm excited really. I need a change for my playtime at the torch when I'm not making things to sell. I think this is going to be a very good learning tool. The more different glasses I can try, the more I can learn and after seeing your work and going to the BABE show, and seeing all of the beautiful Boro artwork there, I have to try it.

I'm curoise about something, I got the cane made but at what point do I put the clear on and get it ready to put on a bead? Since I'm using soft glass I have to be more careful with shock. Do I put the clear on the end, clip it and let it cool so that it's ready to be put on when I make the bead?

Jan,
You should shoot Pipyr a pm to ask this. Don't want her giving away trade secrets in public!
