Default using molds for drawer pulls

I guess it's coping out to use the molds sold for making pulls, but we are building a new house and I needed to make 33 for the kitchen alone. I did buy some 8/32 coupling nuts on the web. I bought stainless steel. you can also find 8/32 rods for your mandrels. These can be found at Lowe's but are pricey. Just dip in bead release. I use thickened bead release to put in the hole of the nut. It dries fast. I use soft glass. I haven't had trouble annealing in the kiln 30 minutes at 930. I turn off the kiln and just let it cool all the way down. I do have to be careful keeping the shaft part heated so it doesn't crack when I put it in the kiln. This is from trial and error. I got pretty good after making 30 or so. Mine are very organic looking. I love glass interactions.

Hi Becky, could you post pictures? Sounds interesting. Have you had any crack? I would have guessed that crashing the kiln from 930 might be risky even if you leave the door closed during the cool down period.

I sell a tutorial if anyone's interested.

The short version is dip steel rods, make the collar of the drawer pull, kiln , make the piece you'll actually grip, join the two together, then epoxy in the insert later.

The tutorial goes into more detail and has pictures along with sourcing info

I meaning to try Kalera's way too, though. They're pretty.

I have been able to use TAG BlackJack and North Star Onyx against the knob pull kit base without it cracking on me. Some of the other colors (particularly the transparent ones) seem to crackle a lot of the time, but so far I've had luck with those right up against the fitting..... Hope this is helpful and true not just for me!
