By goldstone ribbon, do you mean goldstone filigrana? If so, it is probably not a good quality glass and won't be as pretty in your beads, IMO. I use goldstone chunks. I encase them in clear and heat the whole thing and pull cane or stringer out of it. Makers of filigrana use as little of the goldstone as possible to keep costs down and make the goldstone go further, but that doesn't produce the best effects, IMO.

The secret to goldstone is to work it as cool as possible and encase it as soon as possible to keep it out of the direct flame. The green you are seeing is from overheating the goldstone or exposing raw goldstone to direct flame. It looks like copper patina.

I tried to order some, but Frantz wouldn't ship it, so how is everyone finding it if it can't be shipped?

Frantz shipped mine, so I don't understand. Maybe it's arriving broken and so they stopped?

You can make your own ribbon very easily with chunk gold stone.

Heat your goldstone on top of your kiln or on a coffee warmer.
warm up the end of a big clear rod
flash the goldstone chunk in the flame to heat up more
attach it to the big clear rod
using another big clear rod encase chunk witout heating the chunk much
heat all until nice and round
flatten the whole mess inbetween graphite marvers
evenly heat and pull

You will get a nice flat ribbon that is fun to use on most anything.
The fun thing about making it yourself is that you can encase in diffrent clear colors to have purple, green or even blue ribbons.

Thanks for the instructions on how to make it.

I like to use dark aqua or teal transparent. Also, transparent lavender blue gives the goldstone a copper-like color. The thicker the encasement, the richer the color.
