Question Leafing help

Ok so I got some silver and gold leaf from a friend who got it from a garage sale and apparently its from Italy and since I don't know much on how they make their leafs I'm not sure how to apply this stuff each time it touches the flame it burns out and looks like ash and the gold leaf gives a rocky surface while the silver turns copper looking when i apply alot of heat to it over time i don't know if I'm doing it wrong or is this stuff like colored sheets of magnesium (ok far fetched but first thing that burns quickly that came to mind lol) any help would be greatly appreciated

Was it expensive?

Just because it looks like silver or gold, doesn't mean it is silver or gold. I think a lot of the cheaper stuff is copper based.

Warm the outside layer of the bead, roll it on the leaf and then burnish it on with tweezers or a marver....then put it in the flame....

The better you burnish it, the less that burns away.

Is it in a booklet, package, etc?
If so, what does it say on there for the material?
