Default frit

I was wondering if anyone knows how to get that pulled look from frit? I've never used it and the few things I've made do not look so good. Any tips for working with frit would be appreiciated. BTW I use only boro. thanks!

no. not really. I've just seen some other frit beads that look like a base color with frit overtop but its kinda pulled instead of round. But any tips on using frit would help also. just new to using it.

Pulled, wouldn't that be like with soft glass, if you rolled in frit and then did a center wrap of clear, as it melted in it would pull the frit long.
I would try that, I think that is what you are looking for.

I'm a killer frit ho (both soft and boro). There are a couple of ways you can get the affect you mention. It depends exactly what you are looking for.

Instead of rolling your bead in frit, dip the end of your hot encasing glass in the frit and "paint it on". Specifically ... heat end of rod, dip/roll in frit, heat end of rod so it all becomes one mass and then swipe it around.

You can also roll your bead in frit and then melt the frit in and drag a stringer through the surface to stretch and mix the frit.

The other way to get "really swirled affects" make a twistie using frit and make the bead from the twisty.

Hope this helps give you some new directions to explore.

Even though you work all boro, Val Cox's book "Frit Secrets" is totally awesome with ideas and examples. It's focus is furnace glass but most of the techniques can be adapted to boro.

Another way in addition to the ones mentioned above is to let gravity move the glass around the bead or piece a little. Boro will move, just slower than soft glass.

Now that is an awesome idea! Gotta try it some day...

This isn't for beads, but when I use frit to back a marble/pendant, I like to give the whole thing a nice twist after I melt in the frit, which both evens out a slightly uneven border between the 'lens' and the frit backing, but also just looks great. Esp on a vortex marble, when the frit is twisted in the same direction as the vortex...

I can't take the "painting on effect" credit. It was in Val Cox's frit secrets. Lots of great info in there.

I am having lots of fun trying to adapt boro techniques and tutes to soft and soft techniques and tutes to boro. Forever the rebel!!!

Seriously ... you should see my "dime bag" collection of frits. Tons of 96 and ever building the boro blends. If there is a blend out there ... I gotta have it.

Just received Brent's custom blend in all three sizes. Soooo can't wait to play!!

Here's some frit work I'm pretty pleased with... a 'burst' effect on the front of a solid plug.

It's kinda like the "back" of an implosion... And it looks a lot like an eye in this picture lol

OK, OK, OK.......

If memory serves me right!

Base was GA- Singular Passion
Rolled in GA frit blend "Red Granite"
and then zig-zag encased with simax clear

Here is another example of Red Granite but the base is Blue Moon.

Default If anyone finds these colors, please post a ntoe

Just looked on the GA website and didn't see either color listed. Is there a stock out there? Would love to try the purple red combo.
Or maybe cross to another color.

Unfortunately the singular passion was a rev 33 color that didnt make it to the regular line up and they are not producing the frit blends anymore.

The good news is that i have spoken to GA and they may be sharing the frit recipes with me! yay!

Default Pulled look

I think I know a way. I try to make a thin across about 1/4" very deep disc, then apply the frit and melt it down till it's 1/2" across. It will give the frit a pulled look.

Singular passion is a standard colour now actually! Just might be hard to find at retailers as it's quite new... http://glassalchemy.com/cart/rod-fri...ssion-380.html
