Arrow Maine/NE Area 'MLK-Weekend Glass Jam' - Jan. 16-17, 2016

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year to Everyone!

'MLK-Weekend Glass Jam'

Jan. 16-17, 2016 ---- Playing with Fire! - Rockland, Maine

Starting at 9am 'til we drop on Saturday night, then we do it again on Sunday. Come for just one day, or all days. $40/day = torch time, friends, food, networking, sharing of new techniques/products, door prizes, and whatever else you can think of!

We have eleven torch stations and a variety of torches. Torching, sharing, networking... Bring techniques, questions, show and tell... Bring your latest book/magazine, new glass... to share... request a demo, do a demo... if we're 11+ we take turns at the torch throughout the day/night... we do, we learn, we watch, we visit, we have a great time! It's always a friendly mix of veterans and newbies. Any level of glass working experience welcome... and a good time with all!

Bring your flameworking glasses, and any glass or tools that you'll want to work with. We have studio tools that you're welcome to use. Bring your own torch if you wish (if you have quick-connects; if not, let us know, and we can probably accommodate). Bring questions and techniques to share.
~~ And if you'd like: bring something/anything to add to the door-prize pile.

POT LUCK, both days! ...please, and thank you. Bring your favorite dishes to share We'll make some sort of soup or chili! We'll provide coffee, teas, water (we have a water cooler, please bring your refillable water bottle, thank you!) We have a gas grill on the deck, and a kitchen with range and microwave for cooking and reheating. Get the ball rolling, and post your RSVPs (and your pot luck contribution plans) here in this thread!

Please RSVP here in this thread… or hotglass@midcoast.com or 207-594-7805
*RSVPs most appreciated, but if you find that you can make it at the last minute, please do.*

Accommodations: The Old Granite Inn , just a few doors down the street, offers a year-round Playing with Fire! rate to our students/guests----(room-shares may be coordinated here in this thread, or by PM too.) See listings for additional accommodations at http://www.therealmaine.com

Now I have 2 things in January to look forward to. Will be in Epping, NH for the first week of January to take care of a friend having a knee replacement. Looking forward to visiting with her and hoping she heals easily and painfree.

And now... the Glass Jam!

Bring it on, old man winter. I have something other than snow to look forward to!

We will also have the metal working bench, and soldering station open throughout the Glass Jam. Please bring your own favorite tools, and metal. I will be giving a demo or two on drawing wire into a square cross section, and then twisting it... Great on a spinner type ring.

Deb Merrill, Alice Yates, Melissa Bardley and I are staying in the suite. Ed is also coming for the weekend. I think my friend, Sue (with the red poodle) is coming for a day. Happy to see Sue in Maine is going and maybe Candy? Anybody else?

Woohoo! It's just a week away -- how did THAT happen?! Looking forward to seeing y'all soon! And don't forget, bring metal projects if you'd like to work at the metals benches.

Pam, and just how do you know that Candy *might* show up?!

Sonje! where are you? Will we see you, too? Hope so!

Hah! yes, well... ok, we'll go with that.

I posted? Maybe Candy did... Or maybe I can't remember. The last is most likely.

One week away! I'm working this weekend so next weekend is a treat! Looking forward to seeing some demos. Let's all bring something for the door prize drawings. Not sure if I am doing just metal or glass too. Re food: I've cleaned up my act and I'm pretty limited on what I'm eating so ill probably bring a Big Salad and some protein.....
Looking forward to some creative fun!

This last one gave us about 1/2" of snow here in Rockland... mostly rain, none left on the ground this evening.

It is THE DAY and it is not quite 7 am. In looking at the weather for today, I am not going to make it to the Glass Jam. It says it's already raining in Rockland and in 55 minutes, between Bucksport and Rockland, it is going to change to sleet/snow. Given that, I am doing the sucky grown up thing and am going to stay home.

I've already had a pm from Kristi saying she's not going to chance the roads today either. It's the right choice- as much as we don't like deciding that.

I will contact folks later on... it's too early to make calls right now.

My number one thought for today's Jam is: Stay safe on the roads. I wish I was there.

Sue

I wasn't able to make it today because of the weather but I just got plowed out so I am planning on coming tomorrow still if that's alright.
