Default tips for using roccio glasses.

I see the VanGoh thread, and ive looked at the 18 pages or so of the silver pics, but want more info on how to make these colors BLING!!! how about we start a thread that tells how to get the colors on all the rest of the glasses? The glasses I have are Rocio silver mist, picasso, chagall, and both the purples...

In the '60's, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird and people take Prozac to make it normal.

This is a great idea! Maybe we can get Ron Jr. to give us some hints!

I know that Gaia (Double Helix) strikes quite easily. Light redux flame - pass it through 3-4 times or until color appears. It will appear very quickly.

Chagall and Monet seem to strike easily for me too. Same as above.

I have found that Picasso can take a lot of heat, but not too much. Sometimes I can get it right, other times I scorch it. I try to go slow on this one, but it might be just me. But it seems to like a heavier redux flame than the two above.

I would love to see what others do to get the colors to bloom!

Cheers
Kathy

Kelly, I have some in the kiln right now. I hope they look OK but didn't want to post before knowing, ya know? If they do look OK, I'll post something later. Be patient, these are new glasses, lots of people are learning them still.

Let them cool before striking. If you are flashing a glowing bead not much will happed. Cool, then a quick reduce, cool again and treat like a striking glass, in a neutral or oxy flame.
Oh, and Monet boils really easily!

I posted some DaVinci 2 beads in the silver colors thread in the Gallery. All I did was heat the crap out of it. Last night I liked them, today I'm not so sure.

Here's how I do it. I use a lynx and a 10 lpm concentrator. I make my bead, let it cool somewhat, then I turn down the oxy until the flame gets wavy and a little transparent. I don't turn up the propane, because it's too easy to get the brown icky stuff if I do. I roll the bead in the reduction flame until I see it change. Clean up any over-reduced areas with a neutral/oxidizing flame. Hope this helps!

Thanks Ellen! Your beads are always gorgeous! I've gotten some reactions like yours, so I know I'm on the right track with the reducing methods.

Cheers

Chris,

The COE is 104. You can purchase either from Double Helix (www.doublehelixglassworks) or R4Glass (www.fineartbyrocio.com).
