Electroforming conductive paint
After seeing the cost of the conductive copper paint I thought that there has to be something cheaper or that can be mixed at home. After looking at the MSDS of the conductive paints I decided to try a couple of things.
Pledge floor wax w/Future shine $8.00
Conductive copper powder $20.00#
The floor finish mixed with the copper powder about 50/50 by volume settles out very fast,
I found that mixing the two on a lid with just enough floor finish to wet works better.
Powdered graphite $12.00
The powdered graphite I have to try again as it crumbles very easily

I've tried the graphite method and wasn't happy with the end result. Copper worked better for me.

I paint the area to be electroformed with craft enamel, I use red. After it has dried I brush on some lacquer thinner mixed with powdered copper.
After that has dried I brush away any copper that was not melted into the enamel.

PJ... I got it off ebay as it was around $20# compared to Dalmar @$80
Robert... yeah I wasn't happy that it was so crumbly and brushed off real easily. I thought maybe that it was something I did
Steve... I read that method but was to lazy to do it twice

Please pardon my total ignorance in this area, but would bronzing powders work at all?

I tried model paint that said it was made with real copper elements. FAIL.

I tried several different ways to make my own conductive paint and finally concluded that, in many ways, time really is money so I bought a 4oz jar from Caswell and got on with it. Mission creep (we all know him!) lead me astray into all sorts of time-sink things that kept me from doing what I started out to do. I'm a DIY guy to a point, but there is a point at which I just go with the professional stuff so that I can get on with the original project. Sometimes, though, it is fun to just screw around with stuff to see if I can do it

I like this paint from safer-solutions:
http://www.safer-solutions.com/safer...int_Sales.html
I keep it tightly sealed when not in use. Because it is water based you can reconstitute it with distilled water if it does dry out. A 4 ounce jar last forever unless you are electroforming your dog or something like that

I seem to be short on both these days. I keep saying that the only things I need are a whole lot of time and a big sack of money. Seems simple enough but so far no action.

Do you have any finished examples of the copper powder and pledge method. It does sound interesting.
