Me too Ali, I'd be in for one or two. I thought of you right away when the word 'quartz' came up.

Add my name to the list (or I'll just keep watching this thread).

I think Ali just became our next tool maker......

Found these on eBay, but they're not curved and you'd still have to add handles, but (Ali, ahum) could use them as a head start.

The welding torch will work better than a glass torch but it is still very slow. I had to use a very large tip and heat for a long time to make fuming rods out of 1/4" quartz rods. I think it problematic for the larger rods shown in the pics.

Ali, might be a nice little sideline doing quartz tools. Loved your beads and it was a great pleasure meeting you at the Gathering.

yeah getting that amount of quartz to squish a paddle would be frustrating and take a ton of time with a small torch. hydrogen on the other hand..

ETA: if you dont have proper eyewear for working quartz, PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO HEAT IT. the intensity of the light given off when heating quartz is completely ridiculous, you can really, really mess up your vision.

it was awesome to meet you too!!! i hope we cross paths soon!

i made a tool that i am going to try out this weekend, if i'm happy with it, i'll start hustling. thanks for thinking of me guys, i'd be glad if this works out and helps the community out!

I have some of these. Mine are about 9 inches long, 1.25" wide and 5/8" thick. I use mine to smash tabs, but I suppose it would work on murrini too. It's boro so I have to let it cool between smashes.

Quartz can screw up your eyesight pretty badly when melting. Don't try it without proper eyewear.

But , man! That video is way cool. Thanks for posting.

haha, what are forums for, if not creating and fulfilling needs?
Any news on the paddles, Ali?
I have seen curved discs (watch glasses) on ebay, they just needed a handle.

I made a boro paddle, it works, and to me the most important is that I can see if I press my murinni off center, the magnification I dont really feel the need for. but would llike one in quartz that won't stick to the hot glass, so put me on the list please!

I'm intrigued enough to try making one in boro and would be interested in a quartz version too.
