Default Brass mounted on wood

Hi, i have a question about a tool. I saw a tool that is brass mounted on a wood block. I was wondering if it can be used for lampworking or would the wood burn from the heat of the glass? any tip would be appreciated. Thank you!

How is it used? I think more information would be needed.

So you would be what, rolling a bead on the brass, and below the brass would be a backing of wood?

Hot glass workers use wooden shapers. They must be very thoroughly soaked before being used or they will flame on. If you want to try your block I'd definitely want to soak it before hand.

I don't know if I would try it myself, since the composition of the brass may not be very pure.

Its use will also depend on how the parts are attached. They could be soft soldered together and if so will come apart at about 370 F.

How long will the piece be in contact with the glass?

Brass has a lot to do with how quickly the stamp will conduct heat.

The amount of material between the contact point and woodend base/solder joints also makes a huge difference.

Depending on the price I might try it. ...lol....for soft glass...or to take apart and retool into something different. ..

Using it as a stamp I would think the wood would not really be a big issue. I'd try it (depending on cost). I don't think I would soak it. It will wear at the metal pretty fast.
