Default Badger Mini Sandbaster Kit

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has tried sandblasting beads using this system? If so, did it work well, can you get a deep etch?
Any info would be helpful.
thanks Carol

I've got one but haven't used it yet, so I'm not much help. I do think that you'll want something like silicon carbide for a really deep etch, though, and it comes with aluminum oxide.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your response. I just called the place in Canada that has these sandblaster kits (actually a woodcarving store). He mentioned it hooked up to any basic air compressor "80psi". Can you tell me what type of air compressor you are connecting to?

Do you know if you can use silicon carbide with the badger tool?

Sorry for so many beginner questions . .. thanks again for your help

Carol

I've got a small compressor that's made to run the Badger tools, I'll have to check the model when I get home. You can use silicon carbide but it tends to wear out the tips faster than the alumina.

Thanks Robert . . .I look forward to getting the name of the comprssor you have. The site here in Canada that has the mini badger also sell replacement tips (about $7) and a rebuild kit (about $12).

Depending on what I need for a compressor and the $, this may be a good solution for me.

I have seen many sandblasting solution online, but they are very expensive, Since this is really a hobby for me, i can't justify a huge expense.

thanks again . . .Carol

p.s. i having been dying to try sandblasting since I bought Jeri's book early last year . . .i"m so excited

I've got a Badger Model 180-12 aka 'Cyclone'. We picked it up on sale at Michael's for around $100. You can go through $100 in canned air pretty quickly, so it's worth while. You can use it for other stuff, too. A compressor is always a handy thing to have around the house (says a dedicated tool junkie).

You will need a decent compressor to run it - one with a large tank. Small tanked compressors used to run things like nail guns will not have the airflow required for sandblasting.

The compressor that I've got is made to go with the Badger air tools (brushes, media blaster, etc.).
