Default Connecticut Glass Show

Hi -

I have been playing with this idea for a few months now and want to see if there is any interest from my lampworking community (since I just reached out to the Chamber of Commerce for our town). I am considering holding a retail 'glass event' in CT (it would be all things glass including lampwork, sculptural work, and decorative glass as well). It would be a celebration of all things glass - but also a retail event (CHA-CHING) - you don't have to attend, it would be a consignment gig for a minimal fee for administration. I am curious if there is any interest from the LE community in such an event. I would love to hear from you. Please email me directly at LavenderDawnJewelry@gmail.com.

Warm Regards,
Dawn

It just kills me that we have no exposure in CT and I want to help make it happen!

It is closer to lower FFLD county - about 30 minutes away from NYC.

Close to the CT shore - they call it the 'Gold Coast' of CT. We (lampworkers) need to show there. There is money to be made for sure. Just trying to make it happen.

Near Mystic, Stamford or more toward RI....have you looked in the Ridgefield/Danbury area....they seem to do a lot of events. If you are in the Western part of the state, I could probably join in if you need more vendors....

I am more towards Ridgefield/Danbury - but I have not seen a lot of events. The Bead Fiesta comes once a year but I think the area could use more events (based upon the interest I have seen). I will keep you in the loop as this develops further. I want to see what the Chamber of Commerce comes back with. Would you be interested in consignment? Or live display?

We'll see what the Chamber of Commerce comes back with. So far we have three interested, four including myself. Let's see if we can get some more folks in on this. I'll be in touch.

Please keep me in the loop for this too. I'm on Long Island, but depending on where in CT, it may be doable for me.

I am sorry to pull this a bit off topic but I have a question. I am in Milford CT and interested in learning more about lampworking. Any one know of a place around here to get a lesson or two? Or willing to give a lesson? I would be willing to help out with that "CHA-CHING" that you were talking about.

Thanks.

You can take a beginner class at the Sprinkler Factory in Wooster or Guilford Handcrafts (now called Guilford Art Center ) in CT. They have a great teacher (Stephanie MAddelena) that teaches there about 3 times a year. You also might want to go to the Boston ISGB webpage for other teachers in the area or to Kate Fowle Meleney in RI.

I am in eastern CT... Monroe is quite far from me. I know of a few others on this side of the state too who would probably be more interested if it were in a more centralized location, (hartford area?) I do craft shows in eastern CT and usually bring my torch too for demo's

Hey Tammy I didnt even know about it this year! we moved (still in willimantic), and I didnt update my address over there. Did you ever meet Sue in lebanon? She had a converted chicken coop that was her everything art studio. Stained glass, lampwork, ceramics, paint, candles, like giant pillars and stuff not the little jar stuff. She had done it for years, and was even on this board for a bit. but My mom told me that she saw her obituary in the bullitin a few weeks ago. I have not called the family, I don't want to be rude, and be like, "hey where's sue? we were gonna torch this fall in the coop..." I figured I would wait a bit for that. Sue was my 4-H leader about 20 years ago too, go figure...

I will email just because you asked. I would be quite interested in participating in such a gig. I have not done much lampwork "yet" but I have spent several hours at the furnace. As time goes on I would have a few items I would be interested in adding to your setup

Would anyone be interested in at least a 'meet and greet' at this point? Central CT - Hartford area. Perhaps brainstorm some ideas to make an event come together? Just a thought.
