Default Cabochon mandrels

Was looking at these the other day, some of them are pretty cool, but I've never used one. I'd love to see some pics if you guys do. I reckon the glass just sticks to it, have you ever had one fall off? They seem awful thin and it looks like some of them are threaded onto a male screw connection, how well does that hold up?

Glass will stick to them. Add bead release. Mine have held up for years, but the maker of mine is no longer selling them. I use them as punties for twisties sometime, or as a base for a murrini gather, as well as for cabachons. Of course no bead release for twisties or murrini. I just dunk in water to get off any stuck bits.

I have never used them with boro, so have no advice for that.

Wait until you discover button mandrels Never have conquered those, but had fun trying.

Definitely bead release on any mandrel unless you want a expensive plant decorations, or for uses Kathy suggests.

so youd have a pendant with one side coated in release? that seems weird. do you scrub it off with like a sheet of sandpaper? are these meant to be laid in to some sort of object so you dont see the back?

Exactly. You make the flat cab, anneal, scrub the release off the back and then set in a bezel like you would a semi precious stone.
