Default Striking question

When you strike a bead, Where in the flame do you put it?
Does it actually go "into" the flame? I,m trying to strike chalcedony.
Thanks for your help!

At the first strike, after the bead is cooled till the glow is gone (put it under the table to make sure), you re-introduce the bead at the tip of the flame to re-heat (putting it back in the hottest part of the flame may cause thermal shock). . . then you may elect to bring it forward to the hotter part of the flame. For subsequent strikes, it depends if how much you let the bead cool, I usually use the normal part of the flame for those steps.

Hope this helps.
