Default Reichenbach iris orange (RAKU)

Hi everyone! Does this still exist in rod form, preferable the 104 version. I've been looking all over the place and can't find it.

Thanks

Duane

I got one from Frantz, although I see it is no longer listed. Mine is 104, I have heard it was harder to work, but I haven't tried it yet.

It's for some of my shards. The other glass I use with it is all 104.

doesn't mean you can't use the 94coe stuff!
ime the 104 raku straightup sucks. and the 94 works on the surface of 104 no problem.

Woah...................

Anyways, Raku 104 does not suck but I find if you use it in stringers or shards, it is much easier to get pretty results. I find raku burns out quickly in both the 104 and 96 versions. Raku does not like to be over worked.

Raku 104 does not suck. For what I do with it I like it a lot more than the 96 (94?) COE. It doesn't disappear and leave black areas when I use it on black. If I use low enough heat it stays the khaki color I love.

Nice. Does it require striking to get this color?

Yes it does. Just like regular raku.

If you mean the color of the raku frit in my photos, then no. The beads are all 104. Effetre black, raku 104 frit size #0, and the color waves are Effetre Sedona. No striking at all to get the khaki colors. Use lower heat and work farther out in the flame. Just a little too much and it will darken to a olive brown with black areas where it disappears and the black shows through.

As far as getting the colors out of it, you have to strike it like the other raku. But it is a little harder to work.

Is it then, with 104 raku, you don't get it screaming hot like the 96? Would you strike from that khaki look? I've tried the frit, and I've never been that happy with my results. I've been holding off on using the rod.

To get the khaki color you must use very gentle heat and spend as little time in the flame as possible. The beads in the photo are small, like 9mm x 14mm. I have made some that were larger.

You can heat and strike to get the blues and violets out of it that raku is known for, though I am not sure if those colors would be as pronounced as they could be with using the 94-96 raku.

Would light tobacco work for achieving this khaki color also?

I also like raku 104, I get great colors with it, I find it's the same as 96.

I've tried it and the frit melts together too much, looking more like a dark ivory color frit on black. With the raku frit, each speckle is of a variation of light and dark colors and somehow when it melts, the black base color underneath shows through better.
