Can you give us an idea of what you mean by "drop"? And also, what type of glass are you working - 104 or boro? This will probably help us help you bunches!

Thanks De,

I am using 104 glass on a hothead. The pendant I am thinking about, may be made off the mandrel, but it has a hole not a glass loop.

I've viewed off mandrel pendants, on u-tube and they usually use a glass loop. I want to make a pendant that is one piece, flat pear shape, with a hole through the top.

It's so hard to tell you without pics, but I'll wing it .

1) melt a big glob on the end of a fat rod of color.
2) decorate the blob any way you see fit.
3) holding the rod vertically (blob side down), melt the blob some more and
let it droop until it is about as long as you want it.
4) squish with BBQ mashers to make make it flat.
5) heat to remove chill marks
6) punty up to the bottom of the blob with a rod of clear.
7) burn off the rod leaving only the pendant attached to the punty
8 ) gently heat the melted off end and use a peters tweezers to make the initial
hole markings
9) use a tungsten pick to make the hole.
10) hold pendant with warmed hemostats and break off punty end
11) hit the punty mark and make sure everything is smooth.
12) kiln that bad boy.

Thanks so much for the great info. De, Karen and Nancy. That's what I thought, it was made off mandrel using punties. I was hoping it was made on the mandrel using gravity.

Karen, your tutorial is well written and easy to understand, no need for pics. I have tweezers (# eight) but I am not sure if mine are "peters". I'll google that.

I haven't done the punty thing yet. I'll go back to U tube and watch the pros, before I attempt one on by own. Just a little timid, a blob of hot glass and no mandrel to control it.

This is my next venture in glass. I think I'll wait until until after Christmas.

There's a tutorial on making a drop pendant in my book:

http://www.cosmoglassworks.com/store...ge=&featured=Y

The tutorial is using borosilicate glass, but the steps are the same for whatever kind of glass you may be using.

You can get it either digitally in PDF format (which you can print yourself) or in printed form.

If you can, use handy andy's to make the holes. I did that last night while making off mandrel hearts and they work like a dream. I used to have a lot of trouble trying to make the holes with peter tweezers and a tungston pick. I would burn the shit out of my tungston pick and it would get yellow residue on it and get on the glass. They are expensive but they are worth it.

Ya don't get the tungsten so hot it fumes. Nothing like killing a item in the last stage I've done it to many times to count. But I'm saving for the handy Andy's my self or enough money to make my own

If it does fume onto the glass, hit it with a hot oxidizing flame and it will burn the fume off.
