Boro Classes
I am just dreaming in my head about taking a class.........
I have only taken 2 classes in my years behind the torch, the first one,
was boring and so below my skill level, a waste of money. The second one,
with John Kobuki was life changing. I look for other classes that John is teaching and never find one when I can go, or at all. I would consider a class with someone else, as long as it's not a "beginner" class.
Any one know of a really good class? either at the end of this year, (after November) or early next year?

I always think of Loren Stump more with soft glass and murinni.
I think what I am looking for is maybe how to fume? and how to
put an opal into something, I really don't know, I just know that
if it is the right class, it helps you keep increasing your skills, and
helps keep inspiration going. My style and preference of style is
definitely leaning toward John Kobuki. I would love it if I could drive there,
somewhere in California. But I am willing to fly. And in a plane even.
I would love something at Glasscraft but seems like they are going
pipe crazy there for a bit, with the legalization of Marijuana in that state.
I love looking at pipes, but don't really want to learn to make them,
there are so many cheap imported pipes around that just doesn't interest me.
Also the shows I do, you couldn't sell pipes at anyway. I like making
pendants and marbles, with the emphasis on pendants. I can usually
take marble technique and adapt it to a pendant. Anyone know if John Kobuki is
going to do a class late in the year or early next year?

If you want to learn fuming I suggest Kenan Tiemeyer. I know he did private classes and he is awesome. You can find him on facebook. Might pay to ask him

WOW! Really amazing! What is he doing in the last picture? Can he apply the glass cold somehow?
Mary, here is a video on how to encase and use opals. Most of these videos relate to pipemaking but there is still some great info in them. They do a good job of explaining I think.

Lord Dave, that style is beyond what I'm ever going to do. And that is done on tubing, I have seen that kind of work. At the shows I do and the galleries that buy my work I could never sell that kind of stuff even if I could make it. I try to charge $1 a min for my work, and that stuff takes hours and hours, and I really do not do tubing at all, it frustrates me, and if I need frustration that's what family is for, and they never charge me a dime for all the frustration I can handle and then some. Now fuming I think I could do, maybe.
I ordered some silver leaf in my last glass order, anyone have good idea's what to do with it? Please remember that children view this forum, so make your response to that question family friendly, lol.
And thanks Will, that's a very good video. And that is Revere Glass in Berkeley, I could easily drive there, Berkeley used to be my old stomping ground when I was a teen, got arrested there and everything. Ha Memories.

I had messaged John Kobuki on FB about any classes he is teaching. He replied that he is not teaching anymore! :^(
I so glad I took one class from him. It was invaluable.

Hi Mary, Takao Miyake is on FB. In one picture I saw, he was standing in front of a torch. His pendants must take hours to make. No doubt they are not cheap. It was just fun eye candy for you to consider. I think you should try tubing again. I know you don't want to fume, but tubing really gives a different look to pendants. Have a good one.
Dave
Arrested, in Berkeley? That sounds like a great story!

Check out Glass Stock West - looks like they have classes in both encasing opals as well as fuming. There is also a Glass Stock East which you could fly to. BOTH are great opportunities. I would also suggest looking at AGI (Art Glass Invitational) which is in Hilliards, PA. This will be my 4th year going and I've learned all that you are looking for from other artists.

Oh I would really like to go this year but all the classes I would want are full. Maybe next year though, when do you find out who is teaching and what classes they are having? We thought we could plan a trip around it. Leslie do you go every year?

Hi, Mary K... we skipped last year and lots of new classes this year. I think Deb puts up classes, etc in the beginning of the year. I always have the bestest time and learn so much.

Oh, check out the Glass Stock thread on Facebook. Two people can't go and there is a listing of their classes.
