What exactly is Raku frit?
I've done searches on Google, in this forum and other places and can't really find a good solid answer.
Is it Reduction frit or something completely different?

Hmmm...
Other than "Completely Gorgeous" and "Addictive"...I'm not sure what the actual components are!
Love what it does on Red...and it turns olive green when you use it on orchid (purple)!
Sorry I couldn't be of any technical help!

Reichenbach - R108 - Iris Orange, to the best of my knowlege. Besides all the cool color effects people are getting (see above post for *fine* example), it will reduce to silver.

John has most of it. The term raku was coined from Val Cox, one of the great frit pushers, err umm, sellers, who really brought all the varieties of frit into the limelight. She started selling hers as Raku Jitterbug, and the name has pretty much stuck.

You can also get raku in rods. Then you can make twisties.

Olympic Color carries it in rod (actually it's a 1"+ dia. rod), powder, and six different frit sizes.
As I recall there is a minimum 1/4 kilo (~1/2 lb) for any color, they're main clientele is the hotshop crowd.

Don't buy rod- buy the cane. Rods are way too big.

Jon at LBSUPPLYS on ebay usually has it in cane, stringer and different sizes of frit. Fun stuff.

Olympic Color also carries the cane, but there's a 1/2 kilo minimum.

I think Olympic sells Reichenbach in "bundles". Each bundle is 1/4 kilo.

Rods aren't a bad thing! Whack a chunk off, heat it in the kiln up to your usual temp, remove with tweezers and drop it in a can with cold water. Let it shock into pieces....use the pieces to pull stringer. Ta-da!

Make sure you order CANE. I was shipped the rod when I should have asked for cane. My mistake, not theirs and Liz at Olympic Color Rod couldn't have been nicer. I ordered the cane this time.
I'm keeping it though... it's too pretty to send back, and I can make frit out of it. My niece Emily is holding it so I can photo it for you!
Lookee!
