Default Finally i got raku!!!!!

I AM SCREAMING IT!!!!!!~ IT FINALLY HAPPENED. NOT THAT I AM BY ANY MEANS A MASTER. I HAVE BEEN STRUGGLING AND SWEATING THROUGH THE TORTURE OF RAKU FOR YEARS.
THIS IS WHAT I AM DOING
TOOK ONE OF THE BLUE PLASTIC FROZEN THINGS THAT YOU PUT IN FREEZER. I FROZE IT. TOOK IT OUT OF FREEZER. PUT MY BRASS LENTIL PRESS, BOTTOM AND TOP ON IT. LET IT COOL BRASS PRESS.
THEN
MAKE BASE OF IVORY MAKE ROUND BEAD, MELT, APPLY RAKU. MELT RAKU IN TILL VERY HOT ,WHITE, PUT IN PRESS. WALAAAAAAAA!!!!!~!!!!. I AM SOOO HAPPY THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL YOUR HELP ON RAKU. I COULD NOT HAVE DONE IT W/OUT EVERYONE'S HELP. THIS PLACE IS A GOD SEND TO THOSE WHO LIVE VERY RURAL AND HAVE NO ACCESS BUT INTERNET. XOXOXOX
I WILL BE SKIPPING AND LAUGHING ALL DAY

Congrats!
I have kept a stash of Raku and put it away until I could master it. Its been about a year now. I haven't heard of the cooling the brass down with the blue freezer things until reading this thread... now I can't wait to try it again.
Please post your pics when you have them!

Was it Raku 104 or 96 COE ?
I like to be honest you can get much more multicolored beads out of Raku.
When I first started with Raku, my beads looked like yours.
I was happy but not really pleased, cause I saw many beautiful beads from others with much more color.
I found this helpful thread, full of best information about working with Raku.
http://www.lampworketc.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=20601
Love it !
Give it a try, it's worth reading every single page.
If you' re patient enough you' ll be surprised about the results.
It took me a few weeks to figure out what' s the secret of Raku.

Just to pacify........I never got any colors out of Raku 104.
I'm only working with Raku 96.

It quite possibly might be that you are using a reactive glass as a base. Try using black as a base.

When you get to to the point when you see that brown, you need to get it back into the flame for another strike! I haven't used raku for years but here is a bead made about 6 years ago on a base of sage green. Raku stringer as well - another good way to get the colours

Ok I lied, here's a set I made about 2 years ago. Make a twistie with a base of raku and at least six ultra-thin stripes of intense black or hades. The twistie has to be twisted very, very tightly. I used a transparent as a base for this et i think, and you don't have to superheat the twistie, Just heat it until you see the 'haze', remove, COOL and back into the flame for colour development

Beadmeltdown, I feel the same whenever something works well for me.

That was Raku 104?? I didn't know it was possible to get colour out of it at all. I'm impressed! I'd be doing the happy dance with you, if I felt like standing up at the moment.

And Carolyn, those are stunning as usual! Are those 104 also? Gorgeous!

I think they look lovely, I congratulate you on your progress. My recent first tries yielded similar results and I guess we can both aspire to Carolyn's results!

Keep at it and I will, too.

Thanks, I may have to dig out the raku again. BTW, I never use 104, always the 96, much better results for me.

LOL... I always get so excited about Raku when I see it.... I just think I should be an investor of Raku Glass, instead of attempting to put it in the flame!

I am SO very excited for you! I remember the first little smidge of
purple I got on Raku. It was like Christmas morning and 8 days of
Hanukkah all rolled into one.
