Think the issue is pay-per-view, not the pipes!

I'd pay to see it. I am not on that service, guess I'll be waiting for a closer venue or the Netflix debut they have planned later on. I have heard good things about the film. I want to see if it is doing their industry a service. I know lots of people who make pipes but don't use them. I'd like to see the reputation of the industry reflect the business people, not so much the same argument on legality. I'll be in the audience sooner or later.

The film is very well done and focuses on the development of the artistic movement starting with interviews of early pioneers and moving on to the new generation that is pushing the envelope. They do cover the DEA operation that destroyed the businesses of several successful blowing shops but the coverage is focused on the impact to the individual owners and the many lampworkers that were suddenly out of a job. It also highlights the tension that exists between the those that believe that somehow items that have a function are a lesser form of, or do not qualify as, art. Amazing how that bias cuts across all artistic media.

DVD is to be released next month.

I rented it on iTunes.

Really, really enjoyed it. Was awed by the talent and art.

It was a great insight into "the other side" for someone who loves boro but has never been into pipes or the culture surrounding them.

I hope that this is one big step toward recognition of this work as an art form of its own.

i love the points made about how much freedom to explore and innovate the pipe industry has given the raw glass manufacturers. it's something all boro glassworkers (sculpters, beadmakers, pipers, anyone really) should be thankful for. it's not debatable, the color charts we enjoy these days are a result of the pipe industry. the demand for color, created the profits for the Northstar, GA, TAG, etc....to really dive into new territory.

I agree with everyone. Killer flick, amazing art. I paused it so many times it took me three hours to watch it the first time.

I got to see it on a big screen last fall, really fabulous. Ironically, I had *just* seen "Exit Through the Giftshop" about the street art and Banksy, and I think the two films work well together. Giftshop is more focused on the art versus marketing issue, and the Degenerate Art film has a broader focus, but they both ask us to decide what makes something ART and what makes it a cool craft or a piece of merchandise? Giftshop is already available on Netflix, FWIW, happy to see Degenerate will join it.
