Apparently, Black pearl does NOT like to be encased
Crapitty, crap-crap.
There's one batch of beads that will never see the light of day.
Small crackling stress fractures, and big whopping stress fractures.
What a bloody mess.

Me too. I make lots of implosions with Black Pearl and use it on the inside of 2" marbles with out an issue.

There's a 104 Black Pearl. I have to wonder if you were sent the wrong one although I think you would have noticed maybe.

Karen is making beads on a mandrel. I think that is the difference between those who are doing marbles and implosions and not having a problem.
I find, personally, that if I use Black Pearl, or Dark Multi, or any of the other dark, heavy silvered glasses right next to the mandrel (i.e. as my base) I get cracks. Almost every time.
BUT, it I use a base of clear, then a few wraps of the BP or DM, then encase, it is OK.
It does change the look of the bead a bit, depending on how thick you make the color wraps, but you should have success that way Karen.

If there are small stress fractures all over, that would definitely point to incompatibility. Sorry you're having trouble, Karen I've never heard of black pearl giving problems either.

if it was reduced a bit, bringing the shinny silver bits to the surface would it be more prone to small stress fractures?

I'm thinking that the culprit might be the clear I encased it with.
Plus, I usually lay down a layer of clear - but this time I decided to
do away with that.
Ugh.

I have both black pearl in 104 and boro. Could a mistake have been made as mentioned above? They both look exactly the same in a rod. My black pearl 104 was made by precision? and the length of the rods are the same as boro. I wonder if you got a rod of the wrong stuff.....

I've had problems with certain colors on mandrels that never appeared in what I'd call 'normal' work (pendants, paperweights, canes, blown stuff, etc). Star White, for instance - any time I make a mandrel bead with that at the core, it cracks in half.

funny - you have to do that with Moretti, too, if you intend to encase it.
