Default Vetrofond Mauvelous ODD

Let me preface this by saying that I JUST started working on my GTT Cricket two nights ago. YEAH, I LOVE IT!! Anyway....

I have a lot of 791823 Vetrofond Mauvelous ODD. In rod form it's a little on the ugly side. Just boring and bland looking. However, I made a (wonky) barrel shape with it and it's a seriously cool color. Is it a silver glass? While I was working it, it started to look a little cool and I added some R-733 Purple Rose powder and it of even prettier. It's for this awesome mirror-like finish throughout and with the R-733, it's really pretty.

It is an ODD color so I know they sometimes can act different but is it a silver glass? Or, am I doing something wrong? What could I be doing because I would like to keep doing it. LOL.

Congrats on getting the cricket up and running Monica, I know you're stoked! I don't know a thing about that glass but it sounds delish.

Thanks, Astrid! I am so excited. Actually, I have a little more reading to do and then off to torch.

Marti Ann, I love it. My cricket was sorta gifted to me in a trade. It was a custom color (green, SPARKLY green, my fave). I decided not to set it up until I got my ventilation up and running. Now that inhave that... I cannot believe how wonderful it is. At the same same time, I am in complete awe of people like De and Amber and the way they rock the hot head. I needed something like this to make it easier for me to work and... It makes me feel more creative. Does that sound weird?

Anyway, you should definitely try that ODD Mauve. It's very very cool. I am going to play with it more tonight.

I have worked a little with Mauvelous Odd and a couple times got a shine on it almost like a reduction. I'm not sure I could repeat it, but it is a pretty color!

It was a typo. Typos happen. That's why you never hear it before. *chuckle*

I'd like to see a pic of a bead made with this color, other than the one on the Frantz site. No laughing at wonkiness... just interested in the color.

Ditto! Inquiring glassy minds want to know......

Does it devitrify at all Monica?

Well, darn! I went and took a nap and woke up to no electricity. Apparently there was giant thunderstorm and I slept through it. Ha! I will post pics as soon as we get power, I promise.

Astrid, I think it does devitrify. Maybe not as much as EDP but, I had done some things with EDP that same session and remember thinking, "why have I not heard about this one?" And it looked nothing like the paddle image.

As soon as I get power I will post pics! All I have at the moment is phone power.

Wow I really have to develop some self control. I just spent 35 bucks on glass at Frantz. All because I read this post. You girls are sooooo bad sometimes.

Oh girls, I am so so sorry! I totally forgot.
Yes, my power is back on, LOL. I did try to take a picture but I can't get the lighting right and you can't see what I was talking about. Tomorrow during the day I will try again if the sun cooperates.

I tried this odd lot back in Feb 2011 and got a golden reduction on each bead in the set. Not sure if it was a perfect environment in the kiln that day, but the set was beautiful and popular on Ebay that week!

The photo is within my blog post, if you are interested.

I post all my sets within this blog (along with the glasses that I use), so feel free to search through.

Dragonjools is another great resource for seeing glass tests.

You know, there is a CIM purple that gives me a silver reduction also. I wonder if it's the silver in the color that causes this. Interesting, had not seen this new ODD, have to try it.

I was so excited about reading this post I ended up buying some BUT mine comes out looking sooo fugly. The color is so dirty and gross looking.
Am I suppose to do something special to it(like reduction flame) or does it do it's own thing in the kiln??
